I currently have a hypertech, but am considering upgrading to the Edge J/A combo, using the hypertech for codes and speedo. Hows the stock trans/clutch like the Edge unit? will it slip it too easily?

Not To Good If You Are Pulling/towing

Stock clutch *never* slipped for me (even running the Quad 215 tune), but the DMF would make a nasty noise (sounded like rolling a coffee can filled with marbles) and it deteriorated soon after. I have heard of a stock clutch and DMF flywheel that held well over 400 hp for repeated runs, but I never had such luck (I think some of the early DMFs were better, perhaps the newer ones are as well with their enhanced coatings).

I would be surprised if any program could get a fresh stock clutch to slip (slip it once, however, and it will deteriorate quickly), but I would not count on the flywheel lasting very long with *any* program (I killed one in <3K miles of relatively easy driving with nothing more than the Quad 70 tune -- never towed anything with it but, that was not the latest DMF version -- hopefully the new one is better).

A solid flywheel is the only way to go IMO. A clutch disc upgrade may not be necessary, however.

Amazing how backwards most vendors have it. I read that Centerforce is now offering a dual disc clutch setup for the Duramax/ZF6 -- what a joke. The stock clutch is more than adequate to destroy the DMF. A single kevlar disc with CPMac's pressure plate could probably outlast 20 or more stock DMF's...

Heck the DMF couldn't even hold my 90hp chip so unless your willing to spend all that money on that chip and not really beable to use it I wouldn't unless you up the clutch before the HP.Censored
