Hellooooooo guys. OK, so I have a P0446 EVAP code. I know that is either the vent solenoid or charcoal canister. Is there a good way to test the solenoid, so I know whether or not I have to go get raped of $200 at the stealer or not? The truck has been off road, so the charcoal canister could be plugged with dust and mud. How do I check that out? I can easily get to both the vent solenoid on the rear top side of the gas tank and canister on the front right side. I'd just like to have a little bit of guidance & words of wisdom here before I jump in and waste my precious money.

Thanks!!
-Rick

P0446 -Evaporative Emission Ven Valve Performance

It is not just valve solenoid.
IF the EVAP vacuum decay rate is more than a predetermined Valve and the conditions are present for more than 2 seconds.
It will set the code in second trip.

Checked the vacuum lines if there is any leak, restriction, kinked or damaged
another simple think to do is check the fuses.
if everything is ok give me pm.
good luck

FOLLOW-UP:

I got a nice discount on a new vent solenoid/hose to the charcoal canister from the dealer. So I installed that. I figured while I have the big hose off the charcoal can, why not pop the other 2 small, easy-to-remove hoses off and pull the can down and check it. I did that, and I'm glad I did. The big hole (to the vent solenoid) was PLUGGED with dirt and dust. I blew it all out really good and got a ton of s**t out of it. Re-installed and now we'll see if I get another code. I'm very confident that I fixed the problem though.
