ALL you car stereo pro's, I need to pick your brain. Here's what I got going on. I'm trying to install a sub in my 06 silverado 2500hd. I ran my RCA's , remote and power cable to the amp. (older 900watt rockford with the fins type) The amp comes on, but as soon as I hook the sub up to the speaker jacks, it blows the fuse in the power cable. The power cable is a rockford 4gauge cable and it came with a 25 amp fuse that blew. I put a 30 amp fuse in, and it blew. Why am I blowing fuses in my power cable???
I've tried hooking 2 different subs up to the amp, but they both pop the fuse as soon as both wires end up in the speaker jacks. :( Could I possibly need a bigger fuse in line to the amp like a 60 amp? I wouldn't think that I would because it is always only going to see 12 volts right? I say that because the amp powers up fine with a 25 amp fuse and the fuse won't blow until I hook up the sub. Thanks for any help in advance!!

I would bet there is something fried in the amp. I can't think of a good way to test it though. Help someone???

I've been doing some research on this in other car audio forums and most of the time people blame it on the amp. If I could test it, that would be great. I took this amp out of my van a year ago and it worked fine. Now I go to use it in the truck and the dam thing keeps popin fuses. If I had a bad ground, the amp wouldn't come on at all or would blow a fuse as soon as it came on without the subs hooked up right?

Sounds like the output stage of the amp is faulty - you are blowing power fuses because there's an internal short that's allowing full rail voltage to be grounded via the sub-woofer's voice coil.

I think you hit the nail on the head my brotha. Before I took the system out of my van to sell it, the voice coil blew in my sub that was hooked to this amp that I am having probs with. I hope I didn't hurt the othe sub that I hooked up to it.:( Is there any way to get this amp fixed, or am I up sh!t creek without a paddle?

Well, first you have to consider how old the amp is and whether it's worth paying $50 an hour (at least) for diagnostic + the cost of parts etc...this is assuming it's the type of amp that has replaceable components and is repairable.

My 2c worth - if you can get a deal on a new(er) replacement then go for it and don't bother with the repair.

Now that I think about, that sounds like a good idea. I'm just going to look for a used one. I don't need anything special, I just need something that sounds better then just a bunch of small speakers.:D
