My 02 GMC has started making a clicking noise toward the front of the engine. I can only hear it when I have the windows rolled down and at low speeds (could be happening at higher speeds, I just can't hear it due to road noise). Also (maybe unrelated), I have smelled a weird kinda glue gunnish smell coming from the passenger side of the engine. I can smell it when the engine is hot and the hood is up, or through the gap between the hood and fender. My fluids are all good, and there wasn't any smoke coming out of the dipsticks. It still runs and drives normally though. Any help would be appreciated.

How about the front wheel bearing or any idler pulleys?

The balance shafts will rattle at lower rpms, don't know if that is your noise but thought I would mention it.

Ha Ha...I have had both of those...The Front wheel bearing I thought was my power steering pump (I replaced the pump for no dang reason:mad:) Then 3 weeks ago I had an Idler pully bearing take a dump, I thought the blower was going bad by the chattering noise, luckily it was only a bad bearing and not a $5K blower:eek:

i will check the wheel bearing for the smell. but it doesn't make any noise. its not really chattering, it more of a steady, heavy ticking coming from the front and center of the engine. i'll check my pulleys though too.
Try this : remove serp belt and spin all the acc. pullys and check : then drive your truck with belt off: to see if the noise is still there: Just becarefull that no power steering and no alternator out put and water pump is not turning: You can tell if it is the engine noise or alt, water pump, pully noise.
good luck and drive safe

ok, the ticking noise went away, and the weird smell is not from my bearings.
