Here's what it looks like when you go by the General's recommendation for when to change the fuel filter. Mileage is 15,100. Power Service was used with 90% of the fuel ran through the filter. 90% of the fuel was also purchased at 2 different local stores that are both less than 5 years old and are high volume stores. Filter was surprisingly easy to remove. Not sure how tight I was supposed to go on the water in fuel sensor. I ran it up hand tight and then just snugged it with the channel locks. Doesn't appear to be leaking. Started right back up and never died. Secondary filtration is on the must purchase soon list. Also switching from Power Service to FPPF. I've noticed a huge difference after just a couple of tanks of FPPF.

It does not look bad to me at all for 15,000 miles.

looks pretty dirty, but i've seen much worse for sure. not to much rust.. i always run additive and my prefilter and i've never seen even a drop of rust in the oem. once in a while a little in the bottom of the cat filter..

Looks to me like there is rust in the bottom of the can. So what good are your additives doing? I don't use any additives. I changed my filter at 10K and again at 20K. No rust in the can when I opened it up either time. Either I'm lucky or getting good fuel.

There is a little rusty looking sludge in the bottom of the can. The sides of the can are definitely rusted up high. That's why I posted. I ran Power Service and I'm not sure it did much good. I never could tell a difference in performance, mileage or engine smoothness running it. I got some FPPF from Eric awhile back and I can definitely tell a difference running it. Engine runs much smoother and quieter. I'm hoping it does a much better job handling any water in the fuel. There were just a couple small bubbles of water floating around the bottom of the pan when I dumped the filter out. I'll be stepping up my OEM filter replacements to 10K. It was much easier to remove/replace the filter than I thought it would be. Eric's instructions made it easy. I removed the passenger side battery but really didn't need to. Of course, that battery is leaking already!!
Hey, Those of you that are running the pre- OEM filter....Are there any upgrades needed to increase fuel pressure. Seems like you would have to bump up the fuel pressure to push through two filters??

How did you get to the fuel filter? From the top or from the bottom? I'm kinda paranoid about pushing or running the risk bending the AC lines from the top? LLY 2004.5

Do a search in the DIY section dmaxallitech did a how to recently, following those instructions I recently did mine and it is quite easy, about 15-20 mins.
You don't need to bend the AC line if you have an LLY. There's plenty of room.

plenty of room. i do mine from the top and never torque it down with a wrench. i place alot of torque by hand myself and never had a problem yet. i have 80k miles on lly and still running strong.

Got her done! New double pleated Baldwin and it didn't take that long. As for room, I had to do some prying and shoving to get the old out and the new in. A few pumps and tighten the screw and she started right up....... Another mile stone for me as I'm still learning all about this oil burner,:thankyou2
