: Newbie Question
frankthetank 05-18-2009, 08:18 PM Hey guys looking to replace my 94chevy diesel suburban. Looking for a new 09,crew cab, long box,2500series diesel. Just wondering what you guys are finding with these new trucks??? any issues to consider when buying??? Sorry for the newbie questions Thanks
Paul Clancy 05-18-2009, 10:49 PM No issues, just be sure to get the truck you want. Nothing worse than a compromise on trim level you regret later. With a load of dealers closing down there should be excess inventory so could be a good time to buy - not a good time for lots of dealerships though....
LTdann86 05-18-2009, 10:53 PM Good truck,Just the little BS things nothing major
I went from gas to diesel and will never go back
Plus DSL is same price as gas in NY:bounce:.....BTW Love Al Bundy.
silveradoman4 05-18-2009, 11:15 PM Like stated before get what you want, don't compromise, you won't regret it
Got mine bout 4 months ago, love it! 6k miles, not one problem yet! Also went from gas to diesel, will never go back. Overall great truck!
Bigfeet 05-19-2009, 08:51 AM I would suggest keeping the 94. You could always use it as your weekend fun vehicle. I am not suggesting the new diesels are bad, just that diesel burbans are not as common anymore.

frankthetank 05-19-2009, 08:58 AM thanks guys for the replys. I would keep the burban but she has 400,000km on her been a great truck but time to go. I travel lots camping, snowmobile trips down south out west to the rockies.
Trim level unsure of. I dont want to cheap out and shouldnt have to cause the prices are pretty good right now. I want comfort for the long hauls.
thanks
chevdude 05-19-2009, 11:13 AM I have a 09 2500HD LTZ with all the bells!!!!!!! Love it !!! It aint cheap but what the hell!!!! Buy it!!!

sounds like a great upgrade. Just a question for curiosity, Why not look into a Singe Rear Wheel one ton truck instead... If you are thinking of the long box in a 2500 truck won't look any different but will have a little more capacity. Might also open up a larger selection for you..
Reason why I ask is that in my area the government has a luxury tax on vehicles over a certain value which these truck fall into but the one ton trucks are exempt as they are "work vehicles"
I bought the single rear wheel one ton since the price was about the same in the first place and with the tax it would likely have ended up a little less expensive that and I didnt really want a dually out of personal preference.

Very good shout, Mike. If I were after a long box I'd have gone for the 3500 SRW for sure. I've heard the ride is almost as smooth while the extra 540lbs payload can be the tipping point into staying 100 percent legal.

Hmmm good point never really thought about it. i dont know if sask has a luxury tax??? but if the cost is pretty much the same then why wouldnt a guy then??? I definetly dont need a dually, but having the extra payload cant hurt either. I will have to look into that.
Getting closer to what I want thanks guys this is a great site.
Will keep you guys posted on how I make out.

Make your parking spaces can fit a CC long bed dually.

yeah definetly not an issue live on an acreage tons of room for the truck. Sure lots of things to consider.
08 Black Max 05-20-2009, 09:35 AM I have the 2008 2500 crew long bed duramax, glad to have it.
I had a problem with the transmission that was corrected by the dealer and GM, ever since all I have done is fuel, and oil change, and drive with a big smile.
I did get the optional payment book - now that is a real killer, but I have zero percent rate so that brings a smile to the wallet all money is principal on the loan.

I had an older 97 2500 long box extended cab with the 6.5 turbo... I actually feel the ride is much better on my new truck.
I have never driven the new body style 2500 CC LB but I would expect it to be very similar in ride to mine and having that extra 600lbs or so of capacity is nice too since you can cram a lotta stuff into a crew cab eating up that gvw pretty fast...

I lived in Yorkton for about a year going back 6 years ago.. I dont know about the tax thing there either but provincial taxes seem to conveniently mirror each other varying only in the thresholds and rates... wouldnt surprise me to see something similar there in Saskatchewan.
If the price isnt much different either way you might want to give it a thought even if it is only to open a few options of purchase to units locally available to you.
I am quite satisfied with mine... doesnt get the same mileage as my 6.5 did but pulls about twice as strong maybe more and is definitly nicer to look at in the driveway than the old green meanie.

frankthetank 05-20-2009, 08:11 PM Thanks guys. I am not finding any 3500 cc, lb here in sask would have to be ordered from somewhere else. Will definetly keep looking though.
Appreciate the responses keep them coming
