We are towing a fifth wheel camper which weighs in excess of 15000 lbs. with our 2003 Silverado D/A. Much of our towing is currently in hilly PA, but will be travelling in Colorado later this year.
I have read many postings recommending the installation of both an EGT (pre-turbo) and a boost guage and frequently wonder if most of the time it is only because the owner likes the looks of lots of guages.
I am, however, interested in prolonging the life of our tow vehicle and would appreciate getting the recommendations of the experts.

I would measure EGT's PRETURBO.

As far as gauge recommendation, Isspro, Di Pricol, SPA, Autometer, Edge Attitude.

And I am no expert, but the concensus seems to be those choices

If you tow, you are a fool to NOT install a set of gauges.

The EGT is the most important. The boost is more informational.

It is not hard to push the EGT over 1300 going up a long hill. If you don't know what the temp is, you can't back off on the pedal.

If an Edge is in your future then go with PRE turbo. It will already be there to hook up to the edge.

Towing what I tow, I would recommend the Edge w/Attitude. Great company, great product. Easy to install, valuable information while towing.

Would not tow without the Edge/Attitude or the EGT gauge.

I am not an expert, but am experienced in towing.

While I love the "cockpit" look and am a real gauge watcher, switch flipper extroidinaire, I think an EGT gauges is especially important.

You won't see an over the road truck without an EGT gauge.

As for the gauges themselves, I did a lot of research before my first phase of gauges. I ended up with DiPricols because they are a quality gauge with much better than average lighting. I seriously doubt you'd go wrong with Autometer, DiPricol, or Isspro. They've all been doing this jig for quite some time and build quality components.

I have been told the Edge/Attitude boost is from your computer and will not read over about 26.5 lbs . Those with big power boxes and programmers are going to have much more than 26.5 lbs of boost.
