Hello, gatering parts for the new transplant. Im looking into an oil pump, im probly going to just go stock( like a napa job), but i was wondering if anyone used a h/o pump?? Is there any benefits, would it cause more leaks? Im going to go with lube specialists oil cooler kit. I hate seeing the pressure guage read 20 all the time, i want good oil pressure for the new engine. Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

I would imagine that by using an H/O pump you may need to use slightly higher pressure lines and whatnot. It would be beneficial, as more oil is being flowed over an area within a certain amount of time. Kinda like runnin high idle if you get what I mean?

How goes the buildup anyway?

Hehe, the build up.... well ahhh, im almost just getting started, this is the first week i have gone back to work full time so i will have some good income coming to me. I have collected some parts so far: 8 bosh gp's, head gasket kit, two almost new exhaust manifolds, new felpro head bolts, and some odds and ends. I ALMOST have the engine stand and just last weekend we bought a 2 ton engine hoist. So i will start tearing into it when i can put it on the stand. Do you think lube specialists braided lines and cooler will hold up to the 20% greater oil flow?? I am also worried about the coupling on the bottom of the turbo that is the return line, i see it leaks on almost every truck. Is there a special seal there? My goal is to have a truck that doesnt leak one drop of fluid, im tired of adding fliud all the time. I leak sooo much fluid all the time....And as you can see that still didnt help my rust issue here in WONDERFUL CNY.........

Lucky man. Down here work has been so piss poor slow that I have money for fuel and thats it. I've spent a longer time than I remember saving up for the ******* Turbo and Its finally going to be here next week.

Sounds like its slowly coming together. After how much BAD I've heard you talk about the engine on your truck I can imagine you wanting to keep it as clean as possible. I know I could. IIRC there is no gasket between the oil return and the turbo itself. However if you where to use a small amount of High Temp. RTV at both the turbo and block connecting points, that will make a real good seal on it. Only concern I'd have is some of it leaking into the return tube into the block.

the braided stainless is strong on its own so I think they would handle the increase in pressure. Cooler should be fine as well. Might not hurt to call them and hear from one of them as to the limits of there system just to make sure.

How far into NY from the Jersey/NY border are you? I just might want to come up and help drop this thing in with you if thats good with you.

IM not sure on the distance but im about 20 minutes south of Syracuse NY. Its right smack dab in the middle of New York State. Im about 2.5 hours from Albany. The engine that i am revamping actually came from Philadelphia, i drove 5.5 hours to get her.... I hope to have the engine before the end of this summer, its all about money though.... Thats the only thing that is stopping me... I would love help, im sure it would be a haul for you, no one around me here has a 6.5, they are around here known as JUNK.... So i get smashed a lot about it. But this current powerplant has had starter fluid to it almost everyday for about 30k, and im still driving her, tell me that aint tough.......

I'd be more than willing to help, plus it'll be beneficial for me to learn how to pull the engine from my truck without killing it. Might help to have an operational 6.5 around as well for a quick reference or something. Depending on my avalabillity I'd be willing to help. PM me or something when you are getting ready to do the install and I'll let you know.

There are quite a few 6.5's around here and everybody knows what mine can do so in a way its kinda helped the reputation a little. Only one on the forum that I know of is Jesse. ouch starter fluid?? How is that thing still running after being pumped with all that? Diesel and ether don't mix to well...

there is a gasket for the oil return line. you have to get it from the dealer, you will have to have them pull up the exploded view of the assembly. i believe the gasket is only like $4.

Yup, starter fluid, i advise all not to do it, but i have Zero working gp's. So i unplugged the controller. I know its not good, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do..... I will definately let you know in advanced on when i pull the engine, im going to borrow my gf big a$$ tractor as a hoist, my new engine hoist doesnt extend enough to do the job. Thanks yukon for the gasket refrence, i will order it......

The turbo return oil gasket comes with some injecter install kits.

IMHO the high volume oilpump is not needed unless you nhave a 506 block . The piston squirters require the extra volume. The high volume oil pump will cause extra drag on the engine and extra strain on the timing chain. On gassers the oil to the heads has to be restricted or it will flood the top of the head and possibly drain the oil pan. The high volume oil pumps are also quite a bit more expensive.

Thx bk, i am starting to figure out that it really isnt needed. I just want a bullet proof engine, that can service me well, i want an engine i can trust to take me anywhere if i want to go.... i dont have that now.....

I WISH!!!!
Someday i might think about the conversion.
But for now i like being different around here with one of the only few 6.5's
