: How to get some mph in limp mode

A couple of weeks ago I found myself in limp mode and running on four cylinders (one of two injector controllers shut down) with about 150 miles to get to a GM dealer. Fortunately there was no freeway and it was in the middle of the night with minimal traffic.

In limp mode the RPMS are limited to 2k which in first gear buys you 15 mph, in second gear 25 mph, etc. Naturally, I wanted to go as fast as possible and, naturally, when you want to go faster you push down with your right foot, right? Wrong!! Given the appropriate rpm-speed mix, when you press on the accelerator you are telling the tranny that you need a lower gear. Conversely, if you let up on the accelerator, you are telling the tranny that it can shift into a higher gear. So, the trick is to lightly tickle the accelerator until the rpms get to 2k, let off the accelerator, and when the tranny moves to the next gear, repeat the process on up through the gears. With a level road you can travel up to 55 mph in limp mode.

I'm embarrassed to say how long it took for me to get off my instinct to "press with right foot to go faster" and to allow this seemingly obvious method to sink in. :o:

limp mode is what the tranny does and it limits you to 3rd gear so i dont think you were in limp mode. the truck just limited rm and such to save engine

Speaking from experience, you were in the 1093 world. When I have set off the 1093, I can still cruise at 65mph. The 'limp mode' is when you set off 0700, which has finally happened to me (along with a 0735).:( Time to go visit :pimp: !):h
