my 03 dmax has been hard starting for about the last week , it takes up to 3- 4 seconds for it to fire up which is very out of character for this truck. maintenance has been meticulous, as in oil, fuel filter changes etc. fuel filter is only 2000 miles old , along with my nicktane fuel filter. no leaks on any fuel lines either. any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.. oh yeah , does having a nicktane void my warranty at the dealer, truck only has 30000 miles. thanks again.

Perhaps an air leak into the fuel system somewhere?
I had the same thing but chased it back to a communication failure with the plugs under the hood. The problem started with my Juice module going bad and caused a communication failure and hard starts to finally no starts until the engine cooled down. Removed the juice took it to the dealer and they reset the computer and told me that the error code was a communication failure. Put in a new juice and everything has been fine for two months now. 27 K on my 03..Jim

shouldnt, may be injectors. How long does it need to sit before it dosnt fire right away and does it do it every time or is it intermiten
Nictane shouldnt and if they try have them tell you how this mod is casuing the failure. if the nictane is leaking a slight amount of air though it could casue this.
On an instance were it would normally not fire right away prime and see if you get any air.

colder is worse by a little, but it hard starts everytime . guess its time to take it to the dealer and get it fixed along with the intermediate shaft and the annoying belt chirp and belt squeal. man i love this truck. i think!!!???http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/censored.gif

Like RatLover said, check the prime. Hope that does it.

Does the volt meter dip down to 11 or 10.5 volts when you first turn the key on? (wait to start) If not, then you may have either a poor connection of some type or a bunch of burned out glow plugs. If the voltage does go down as expected then I also would suspect some sort of a prime condition as well.

volt meter reads 11.5 to 12 , nothing but solid fuel comes out of filter head bleeder.
