I had a vibration start on my way to work at around 75-80mph when I first got on the highway. The vibration eventually went away, but after a day of sitting my buddy found transmission fluid leaking under my truck. It looks like it is coming from the rear of the transmission but I can't be sure.

Can anyone help a brother out with what might have happened.

Thanks in advance,
Rich

sounds like the housing between the trans and transfer case cracked. Happens when a u-joint goes bad on the older allisons. Happened to me on my 01 and have seen it on a couple of others around here.

I second that, smallerhauler. That extension housing has cracked on the outside, and on the inside. I just had that happen to my second tranny which had only been in for almost two weeks, come to find out it was my front u - joint. Check that first, but make sure you look that whole tranny over really good, inside and out.

Need less to say I am not checking it out, it's at a shop getting checked right now. My uncle who is a mechanic also said it sounds like a U-joint that when bad and might have caused the rear main seal to fail. I guess we will find out tonight or tomorrow. I will keep yall posted and thanks for all the info.

Thanks,
Rich

smallerhauler you are correct, my transmission guy is working up an estimate for me today to get it fixed. I can't wait to hear how much this will cost!!

when mine cracked (looked like a hot tea cup dropped in a bucket of ice water) the part was $250 from Eric Merchant. i replaced it myself with the tranny in the truck. a lot of guys pull the tranny to do it which really is the best way to do it but thats gonna add up to a lot of labor.

Well I got the estimate and it's around what I thought it was going to be, $660 for the parts and a total of $1100.00 for parts and labor (there also flushing the whole transmission).

I can't wait to get her back on Monday!!
