I have been accumulating a lot of rock chips behind my wheels, primarily because of my wider tires. I'm at the point where I want to fix it and then probably use the 3M tape to protect it. I'm not sure I like the look of the Line-X solution. Does anyone know of another solution that I could get for under $500? I'm not scared to do some work myself if needed.

I would try some mud flaps first.

For me, mudflaps are on the truck but I still get rock chips on my rocker panels. Further down then Premis and not as big, but enough to make my picky butt upset...

Mudflaps are preventative. I'm looking for something to correct current damage.

I just spent 3k fixing rock damage a few months back, I intended on going the 3m route also but within a few days I had a bunch of new chips:mad: If I actually planed ahead and had the 3m ready to go on before it left the paint shop it might have worked... Next time around its getting Line-X from the body line down;)

Boy thats nasty and is why I made some long mud flaps for my truck. I hate to say it but its paint job time. Its not really a DIYer job if you don't know anything about painting, but you might save a few buck buy removing the steps and flairs yourself. You only need to paint the bottom 1' of your truck up to the body line. You might be able to get that done for 500, but I bet more like 800 for a good job.
Edit
$3K for rock chips? Was there gold in that paint? Heck my buddies must cut me a better deal on paint jobs then I though.

Thats what I just spent 3k on:rolleyes: well that and some rock chips on the hood and the whole truck buffed.. In hindsight I wish I just got it Line-x'd even though I do not think it looks as clean its better then re-painting your truck anually..........

herculiner has a do it yourself kit in black and your truck is black so it would look good, and its cheap to do.

check out trans star chip gaurd. Comes in white and black, just tape and spray. You can paint over it as well. This is what toyota uses i guess.
