I'm having a really hard time finding a 6.2 truck anywhere within 300 miles of San Diego. Where the heck are these things located?

Where, when and how much did you pay for your 6.2?

I remember 10 years ago when I was in highschool and couldnt afford my own set of wheels they had auctions for military 6.2 blazers and pick ups all the time. I always wanted one but now they seem to just not be around anymore.

Six years ago I got one for free. Did some wiring on it and ran it as a daily driver until the first of 08. Bigger family so I got a 6.5. Sold it for $500 bucks. See them all the time for cheap around here. Alot of parts too.

I paid $1500 for mine in '03 from my brother-in-law... Had some of the original dealer paperwork in the glove box *bonus*.

Granted the production figures tell a story of "rare when new" for '88 and up 6.2's, but the flip side is that a lot of government agencies (CalTrans, school districts, etc.) bought diesel trucks and short buses. Keep your eye on the auctions.

I found a brand new snap-on spot welder in a dumpster and traded it for my basket case truck without a motor, then found a motor for 100 bux with 50k miles on it and got the rest of the parts for free at a friends scrap yard.

Really depends on where you are, some farming areas have tons of 6.2s/6.5s, other areas, not so much in other areas.

As for me, after about 4 months of searching, I found mine about 2 hours from me.

My 6.2 i got from a junk yard...yea someone actually thought it was the end of the line for it! it was an old county truck. it needed two batterys so i took some of my dads old big rig batterys on a cold day in january not thinking it would start but as soon as the glow plugs shut off it started like itd had beeen running all night even though the guy said it hadnt been running for over a year. I paid 2500 for mine and knock on wood havent had any major problems with it in 3 months only had 92000 on it when i got it

$800 for the '93 (old state truck @ auction), $800 for the '92 parts truck (overpaid), only $200 for my rusty departed '85 Sub (the batteries from it were worth more than that)

... 2001 GSA sealed bid auction,... from BATF my '85 M1009 CUCV for $888, and if I'd known what I was getting (listed as '85 chevy blazer) I'd have bought all three for $1200ea. It had 54k miles and needed batts and tires and lube to all points.... still running great at 94k miles and it doesn't matter what else I have ('99 GMC burb 6.5td) I'll keep it... Oh yea, I have about $700 in it counting tires, batts and paint....

I paid $3000 for my old 6.2, but it was an 1984 with under 100k miles. It has been driven on over (7)1000 mile trips and used as a daily driver. All I have replaced was the starter and oil changes. I sold it to a girl I know and she drives it hard and it still purrs. ONE OF THE FEW BULLITPROOF 6.2's.

New gm goodwrench 6.5 with 15k miles on it.

Sold off all the stereo, tool boxes, tvs, dvd player, playstation, pickup bed crane, roof rack, and now have about $3000 invested after selling that stuff.

I still have 4 brand new 39x18 baja belted that came with the truck as well as the used ones on it. I should be able to get $1000 for those and im keeping the brand new 12,000lb winch that also came with the truck....also keeping the 105g tank in the bed and the tool box that fits over it.

No rust, panels straight, a few dings.

If i did sell the rest of the stuff id only have about $1000 in it.
