anyone have mudflaps on their stock trucks? i see a lot of discussion about flappers on here but they are usually on lifted trucks with 285's. i'm keeping my stockers for now and need some gaurds to keep the kickback down. i might go for the oem ones -:t but i dont know. plastic, plus on the ones i've seen they dont line up right. i'd like to keep it cheap @ the maximum of $100 if possible. thanks

I put them on when I tow nice things. I dont like rock chips in my stuff.........

I bought a piece of aluminum angle. About 1x1 in and 2 feet long. Cut it in half, and bolted it onto the truck at the bumper. Kinda hard to do, but it works pretty good.

I just bolt on the flaps when I need them.

costed less than 20 bucks.............

I looked and didnt see anything I liked for sale.

If you have a Tractor Supply Company around your area they should have diamond tread mudflaps for a decent price, they look good too, compared to plastic.

they may look dumb, and that's why i dont want the big ones. i need something to protect my paint. the finish doesnt give a rats ass how big the tires are, all it cares about is rock/mud/grit build up.

straitdiesel thanks. i'll start looking around for a supply chain.

any more ideas/suggestions/opinions let's hear 'em.

We have put Putco flaps on all of our trucks. It is 16" of stainless with a 4" rubber flap at the bottom and are fairly wide. I don't remember exactly how wide but, 10-11" seems right. The only problem is they are a little spendy.

I just installed the one's I ordered from Eric, OEM's, price is right, fit is right, they blend with the other apointments of the truck, installed without a hitch. They will do the job and it's not cobbed up.

The molded OEM guards were too short for me on stock tires... The rocks and crap would still leave rock chips on the rockers and spray crap on anything I towed.

My final solution for the 03 and the new 2005 was to take 4 big honking semi-truck flaps and cutting to a reasonable size (~24x15 for the back, ~30x20 for the front) and putting them on. They may look too big for the application, but they keep the crap from spraying everything. I have them set to ~6" from the ground.

Eventually the truck is getting the H2s sitting in the barn, hence the big flaps.

I have seen good looking flaps on Victory Red's truck. My Dad had the same ones but I cannot remember the name. Look for a post on here.

I really like that look. Did you paint them yourself? Either way do you know the prep and paint involved? Flex agent in the paint?

Thanks,
John

I ordered some off EBay. They took a bit of work to install and I like the look, however they are a bit short. Mud and stuff still hits the back part of the quarter panel and the front doors. I can post picts if you are interested.

Thanks,
JohnJohn,

No, I didn't paint them myself. I'm friendly with the auto body guy that's next to my business (two teenage driving daughters, long stories) and he prepped and painted the flaps and I believe I paid $75.00. Not sure about the flex agent but he did mention that the painted surface needed to be prepped with something that makes the paint adhere to the plastice better. I wish I had a better answer than that but I will see him tomorrow and ask what exactly he did for the prep.

I installed them about 1 month after I picked my truck up last year (May '04) and they have held up tremendously, no cracks or chips to date. They could be a tad longer but I think until something better comes out they'll do.

Thankful

I put the Husky mud flaps on mine and I'm still using the original 245 tires. I will probably go with 265's after these wear out. But I don't think my truck looks goofy with them. It looks pretty good to me.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not challenging your opinion at all. That's what makes truck ownership so much fun. So many changes and modifications because of so many different likes and dislikes.

I'm considering the bar that attaches to the receiver with the hairy nylon strands hanging down to protect the new trailer. I tlooks like what you see hanging from the back of those Prevost coaches and are easily removable.

Very similar to the OEM's and they don't have the logo. If I'm not mistaken the OEM's aren't paintable.

If you are looking to protect what you are towing, check out the link at the bottom of this not.

The is the websight for Enkay Rock Tamers, slick system, I bought it to protect my Airstream. Fairly easy to put together too.

nosliw,

My dealer did not stock the Husky's although your dealer may. If not, I picked mine up at www.pickupspecialties.com (http://www.pickupspecialties.com). Maybe one of the site vendors carries them as well. They sell them for $40/pair.
