I took apart the rear hub as a result of the poor emergency brake performance. I found that the shoes for the emergency brake were covered in axle lube. So I began replacing the axle seals. The dealer sold me a part number 15007008. It fit in the hub just fine, but doesn't seem to slide on the axle far enough. I've beat the hub with a wood block and a 2 lb hammer. The new seal is a much different design than what came off. There is a shoulder on the axle that the seal would seem to ride on, but the seal's inner diameter seems too small. Any help, thoughts or part numbers from somebody other than the dealer would really be appreciated.

Ask local NAPA store for part # NOS 31870. Also ask dealer if seal is for 10.5 rear or 11.5. you should have the 11.5 ring gear

Check shoulder on axle for lip that may be keeping seal from installing properly. I fear you have destroyed new seal by hammering on it

Eric lists the same part number, 15007008, on his website for the 11.5" rear axle seal.

Just a thought... Take the time to get the proper tool for installing the seals(bearings, races etc..) so you do not go throught the same problems I did with mine. I have had to change my rear seals out, going on the 5th time now due to, what I would assume is improper installation and may now need a new rear-end due to the problem. I too can relate to the lack of rear brakes and am getting upset having to keep using my front brakes to stop my truck. I may have worn my axle down too much by improperly installing the seals.

My part # for the seals are 2081 but that will not help you if you have 11.5"
