: Polished my stock LLY exhaust pipe
squirrelmaster 05-09-2009, 09:56 PM I've been slowly working on this when I get the time over the last few weeks, so it's still a work in progress. I do plan to do a bit more polishing as well as paint the rest of the exhaust black, just to get a little more contrast. Hopefully down the road when money is a little more plentiful I'll be able to invest in a nice aftermarket exhaust, but for now this will work for me.
Pics (excuse the dirty truck):

For anyone else who may want to do this, I used 120-grit followed by 320-grit dry sandpaper, then 1000-grit and 2000-grit wet sandpaper, followed up by chrome polish, though the chrome polish wasn't really necessary after all the 2000-grit polishing I did.

TRPLXL2 05-10-2009, 10:32 PM Wow that's hard to believe that's the stock pipe, I have never seen some one do that before. I am going to definately try that on my truck, thanks for the cool idea!

squirrelmaster 05-11-2009, 08:12 AM looks great, how many hours it take ya?Well, it's hard to really gauge since I took several cracks at it. The first go around I did just about the first 6-8" of the exhaust, but realized that looked pretty dumb from behind. I then did the remainder of it whenever I had the time, and then finished wet sanding it right before I posted this. So, altogether it probably took me about 12 hours to do this. Now, had I done it all at one time, it probably would have only taken me 4 or 5 hours to do, since I wouldn't have spent time wet sanding and polishing it three times. ;)
The hardest part was the fact that there is a seam-line facing forward on the exhaust that alone took several hours of sanding to make invisible. Had it not been for that, it would have taken me considerably less time.

Yeah, I should mention that this was spread out over roughly a one month period, a few hours at a time every-other weekend. ;) :D

squirrelmaster 05-15-2009, 05:44 PM Update: I painted the exhaust (not all of it, but the rear couple feet), and snapped a few photos. It's been raining here, and I took the pictures right before the rain started again, so excuse the filthiness of the truck.

dozerboy 05-15-2009, 06:36 PM Can you take a pic farther back like of the whole back of the truck. I've been thinking of doing this, but I don't want it to be to notice able.
