I'm going to be changing my front/rear diff fluid and was thinking of going with Castrol 75w-90...or royal purple...and for the trans case I was going to go with Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic, just curious if those good choices.

For the Diffs I'd recommend Amsoil Severe Gear either 75W-90 or 75W-110. I've been using the stuff for years and have nothing but good things to say about it. It works awesome with my E Lockers.

haha well yes I know about amsoil fluids its all everyone talks about on here, but where i'm from (vancouver bc, canada) i never see amsoil products on my local stores shelves (napa, lordo) except from canadian tire...but its for motorcycles or 5w30 regular oil...I know i can get it online but just don't think its worth it when there are perfectly fine products at my local store I can buy tomorrow...I think i'm going to go with royal purple gear oil, mobil 1 5w30 for the trans case...and I haven't decided yet about the trans fluid.

Well, I'm from the same area you are and I buy my Amsoil from one of the forum sponsors on here. Even with the difference in currency the cost for the Amsoil still comes out cheaper than buying RP from those rips at Lordco or Canadian tire for that matter. You can have the Amsoil shipped to Point Roberts and pick it up there. Also, North Shore Off Road sells Amsoil too. If you're really stuck on RP buy it from Mopac out in Langley, nobody in town sells it cheaper than them. If you want more info shoot me a PM and I'll fill you in.

shit, sorry man didn't look to see where you were from, thought I'd be the only one from Vancouver...but i'm still going to go lordco for RP gear oil just because I get a nice discount, after some more reading i've decided not to go with 5w30 in the t-case because I don't do very much highway driving or enough to get it up to full temp for longer periods of time, but i'm still confused on what fluid to use in the trans/t-case i'm assume i can use the same stuff in both...I don't do very much towing so i'm not looking for the most expensive stuff but not the cheapest either...any suggestions would be great...i'm gonna go to lordco and napa tomorrow and start pricing everything out.

I get the so called discount from Lordco too. Get your RP price from Lordco and then call Mopac. You'll be surprised at the price difference because Mopac is the distributor for RP and Redline plus Lordco buys it from them. If in doubt about the tranny and T-case, just go with what GM recommends.

ok yeah i'll check to see the price difference...my discount may be different because i work in the automotive trade and my workplace gets a discount through lordco and napa that may be more than an regular account discount..not too sure though.. thanks for all the help i'll fill you in on the prices tomorrow.

When it comes to your statment about you don't do much towing so you don't want the expensive stuff. Towing shouldn't be your deciding factor. Have you ever looked at an OEM rear diff cover thats 2 years old or more? If you have you will notice that the paint is peeling off of it and its rusting. Why is that paint peeling off? Heat plain and simple. If you overlook the rear end fluid you stand to wear out that rear end faster than it should. Most people don't know how hot it gets in the rear end of a Dmax rear end. You would be very surprised at how hot the fluid gets in the rear end when not towing or hauling anything but just running down the hwy. be cheap on your engine oil, be cheap on your trans fluid.....don't be cheap on your gear oil. Be smart and choose something from the list of oils tested in the study and make sure it didn't fail any tests. Oil is cheap rear ends are not.

Before you use RP gear oil read this completely and pay attention to the second test in the paper. If you still want RP after reading this study go right ahead.

ok well I found a dealer of amsoil about 45 mins from me...so i'll go with Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 for frnt/rear diffs..but what type should I get for the t-case and transmission...and how much do i need..are they different amounts if I drain from the plug or drop the pan?

Are you driving to meet this dealer to get your product? If you are please forgive me.......but your nuts to spend all that time and money when you could have it delivered to your home. For about half what you will spend in fuel to get to this dealer you could sit on your computer order it and what is your time worth? Is the dealer giving you retail or wholesale pricing or somewhere inbetween? Remember there are Amsoil warehouses in Canada so you don't have to worry about the hassels of shipping across the border from the USA. The Amsoil Warehouses are in Toronto & Edmonton for you that live close enough to drive to them you may pick up your orders and save on shipping all togther.

You should use the Amsoil Torque Drive for both the transmission and the T-case. If you buy 3 gallons you will have enough to do the pan drain or drop which ever you choose and the T-case.

If you would like a quote on your order for shipping pm me it doesn't cost a dime to get quotes but you may be spending more than a dime in your time and fuel to get your order.

I use Amsoil ATF in my Allison, transfer case, steering pump.I have been using Amsoil ATF since it came out in 1980. I called Amsoil when I bought my GMC Duramax/Allison, Amsoiltech services recommended I put ATF in my Allsion over the TorqueDrive.
I changed out my transfer case @3,000 miles, got about 2 qts of glittery red fluid out. I put in 2 qts Amsoil ATF, FOrty thousand miles later, I again drained out 2 qts of Amsoil ATF and refilled up with 2 qts of Amsoil ATF. Maybe its the quality of the fluid, that keeps the heat low and prevents the fluid from volitizing

I get my amsoil products delivered to my home in New Westminster BC. Their warehouse is in Edmonton, so you dont have to worry about customs and excise taxes etc. Go www.amsoil.com (http://www.amsoil.com). Set-up is easy, and delivery was pretty fast too.
