I'm not getting any nibbles on my other threads, so thought maybe I'll get some help here. My tow/haul quit; no indicators in dash when pushing the button. Any ideas? Thanks.

if it isnt working i had the same problem wires broke in the shift lever. all you have to do is replace the shift lever and get your deler to install it unless you know how to get into the dash

If the wires in the lever have gone bad the truck will default to the normal mode. Best way to tell if just the light is burnt out is to cruise at 30 or 40 MPH and turn the Tow/Haul switch on and off. If you feel the lock-up clutch come on when you push the button then Tow/Haul is working. If nothing happens I'd check the circuit.

Thanks for the replies. As an update, scanning with a tech 2 shows no engagement when pushing the switch. Hopefully, it'll just be the broken wires. Any suggestions as how to check to make sure? Am thinking that a simple check with an ohmmeter could tell if I knew which wires to check. Thanks.

Easiest way to check the switch is to remove the cowl around the steering column and find the two wires coming out of the shift lever. There should be a connector on the bottom of the steering column that you can disconnect to get at the wires.

Put your ohm meter across those two wires, press down on the Tow/Haul button and see if it changes states. This is a momentary switch so it will only change states when the button is pushed down.

If the switch is good then you need to check the body controller.

if the wires are broke in the shift lever it is best to replace it instead of fixing because they will only break again if u try to fix

Thanks to patrick for hooking me up to the tech 2 and pointing me in the right direction (and Wi Huck for letting him), to Powder King and Machinator in this thread, to atschevytech in the "emergency 911" thread, and Cobra #3747 in the "ask the techs" thread. You were all right; it is either the switch or wiring in the column. Off to the stealer to see how much he wants for the parts. Thanks again.
