I would recommend you do a search. This subject has been beat to death here every other month.

You will find a ton of information about this in here. I personally just use Power Service DieselKleen in the gray bottle and Wallmart's tcw-3 2-cycle oil. I put 1/2 oz of each mixed together in every gallon of fuel. So if I put 10oz of the mixture into the tank, I top it off with 10gal. of fuel. I do this as often as I can, but if I'm out of town or something I dont worry about it.

I recommend you use Amsoil's Diesel Concentrate (https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/adf.aspx?=zo1466322). It will help keep your injectors lubricated and clean. I can help you with that and other synthetics for your truck in you are interested.

I use stanadyne power formula in all my trucks every fill up.

After putting 150K miles on my 6.2L diesel, 99K on Mercedes E300 Turbo diesel, and 110K miles on my Duramax without putting in one drop of additive, my conclusion is that it is not needed. So that is 359K miles without a drop of any additive. Why spend the money?

I actually am going to try a 700 mile trip I make often across the state and back without Stanadyne for a change - and see what happens MPG wise. The trip with Stanadyne is always 18mpg hand calc regardless of time of year, temps etc.

I just ran a tank of straight diesel thru it and the low fuel light is about to come on - so it should be pretty void of additives when I fuel up tonight for the trip on Thursday.

OK - Made the trip with usual B5 BioDiesel but NO Stanadyne as described above. One of the claimed advantages to Stanadyne is better MPG.

Guess what - I still got the usual 18MPG hand calc even with 2 regens during the 700 mile trip....... :eek:

Been running Stanadyne PF like a religon for 22K up till now...... Not sure why bother now........

Jimmy,
2 regens with 700 sounds right, (400 miles per regen for moi)

<sarcasm on>
the lack of improvement of your mileage is probably user error, you did not follow instructions to the 'T', I am pretty sure you forgot to kiss the stanadyne bottle and chant "stanadyne is #1, stanadyne is #1..."
<scarcasm off>

wear protection from the new diesel is reason I am adding soyshield :-)
maybe it is time for a new wear test!

Thanks for sharing your comparision test.

I am heading out to tinley park, il and back, will measure my mileage with soyshield

The 5% BioDiesel I run more than takes care of the lubricity ........

Guess the other bennies of Stanadyne are worth running it........ who knows........ I will have to do the Stanadyne dance for now on ...... :)

I have run Stanadyne from the first tank on, I figure it's cheap insurance. With the ULS fuel the extra lubricity is a must imho and the moisture protection is a preventative measure. I have always had great mileage (20 to 22 not towing hwy & 16 to 18 mixed driving) but I can't say it's the Satandyne because I've never run without it.

You don't need to run an additive, but Stanadyne, FPPF, Opti Lube, are good brands.

Since thousands of dollars (funded by members here) were spent on the lubricity study for diesel additives, I would recommend you read and follow the best results of the study.

Many members here are prejudiced in their preferences when it comes to additives. Get the facts before you make up your mind.
