Hey everyone. I have an '04 Yukon, an '05 Silverado and both have had the intermediate steering shaft re-greased multiple times to fix the clunking. I bought a '08 2500 DMAX CC 4x4 last year and am turning 12k miles on it. I noticed this week I have a clunking that occurs at slower speed while turning and going over small dips. It feels somewhat like the ISS problem but I can also hear a clunk behind me. Does anyone know if GM fixed the ISS problem on the '08's and newer models? I'm going to go look at the crossmember rivets and the LCA bushings now.

There is a new I-shaft that fixes the problem mentioned.

The new body style should not have the problem on the older trucks. There is a new designed I-shaft for the older trucks.

This may be one of the reason GM is in trouble. I had a 99 GMC 1500 with the problem and a 03 Chevy 2500 duramax and got a friend that has a 05 GMC durmax with the problem. I don't think Ford or Dodge has this problem, but sure they got other problems. I would think after a few years they could fix it. So far no problem with the sterring on my 06 Chevy with 40 k miles.

Thanks everyone, I was hoping I wouldn't need to deal with that thing on the new truck. So I took it in and told them about the clunking. This is after I gave all the bushings, and cross member rivets a once over. They called me about 4 hours later to pick it up. They say the clunking was from a bulletin in regards to the leaf springs needing pressure washed and lubed... I think they did something else because the truck rides much quieter, and more solid and the noises/clunks are all gone. Kudos to Selman Chevrolet in Orange, Ca.

What is the date of this fix? I had mine done in late '07 or early '08 with what was supposed to be a new bushing (different color). Is this something more recent? Do you or anyone have a part number so that I can argue with the dealer.
