I was wondering if an exhaust brake would work with an automatic transmission. I have a 99 powerstroke and I am pulling about 14,000 pounds and I really think I need more braking thank just the pickup and trailer.

ive got a BD exaust brake on my truck also with a bd triple lock for the converter, i rarley use mine though, even though the BD installation book says to use it once a day to keep it from sticking, my stock trans lasted to 125k, now im at 142k on my THIRD remanufactured trans, when this one goes again next month ill put in a suncoast or bts.

As I saw the grade sign saying "6% grade for the next 16 miles" I turned on the exhaust brake and held the entire 16 miles at 40 mph without ever touching the brakes. YES...The exhaust brakes do work with automatic transmissions. I would go without one!!

...I would go without one if I did not care who I would hurt driving down these graded hills. At these heavy weights, it is a must!!
