: Edge EZ LLY - Dyno and observations.
McRat 04-26-2005, 09:47 PM Drivability - B
EGT's - unladen WOT to 96mph = 1350 on Level 3
Boost - 22PSI max.
Dyno:
Tune #2 - Peak HP gain, 79rwhp at 3150rpm, 179ftlb at 2150rpm
Tune #3 - Peak HP gain, 89rwhp at 2900rpm, 205ftlb at 2400rpm
Thoughts:
First, I thought level 1 was OFF. There is no off apparently, the lowest level is 30HP/80ftlb per the brochure. Teach me not to read instructions!!! :( I did not test the level 1 because I thought it was off.
Brochure says:
1) 30HP/80TQ
2) 50HP/110TQ
3) 65HP/150TQ
Obviously it is VERY underrated.
Not smokey. FAST. Bushels of TQ even down low. Probably one of the better tow tunes. Might be too much for stock trans on #3. DOES NOT STACK WELL in my tests. Bursting and 1093's occurred while stacked, while the VA didn't. Power output surprised me since I was expecting a "tow tune". While not a race tune, the huge torque increase gives you excellent passing performance on #3 at 75mph.
coyotekid 04-26-2005, 10:34 PM What did the Juice dyno on your truck, McRat?
McRat 04-26-2005, 10:38 PM When I went to the dyno with the second beta LLY Edge w/attitude, the truck got dyno shy. Never did find out what went wrong, but the numbers were lower than stock but on the street it hauled ass. I never reported the numbers because they were pointless.
coyotekid 04-26-2005, 10:41 PM How did the top Juice tune compare to the Predator top tune?
McRat 04-26-2005, 10:50 PM The EZ pulled 372rwhp/706TQ on #3. I didn't dyno the Predator 100 recently, but before the liftpump and intake, it was 375rwhp. I would guess the Predator would do about 390-400 on my truck now. Maybe next time, I will revisit the Predator. I haven't run it in awhile, but I still use it for codes and data.
Max Power 04-26-2005, 10:56 PM Have you had a chance to try a new Juice/*** ver 1.2? It's a totally different animal from the old one. I love it so far.

Does it not bother you that they can't get closer to their claims? Seems if you bought one to tow with you might be dissappointed in the egt's? Not that more power is bad, but I would think if they advertise 65hp or whatever they could at least be close. They claim they use 18 engineers, I would be worried.
Max Power 04-27-2005, 12:23 AM Not too many people are going to complain if you give them more then they paid for. Since not all trucks are going to provide the same results the extra HP provides a cushion. It's a heck of a lot better then people seeing less HP then advertised.
coyotekid 04-27-2005, 01:04 AM Very interesting McRat! It blows me away that Edge's new "towing" box is capable of nearly the same power as the Predator, but that's what dynos are for! I appreciate you cutting through some of the marketing B.S. to give us some real-world info.
While I'm not "starving" for fuel on the top Predator tune, I know I'd benefit from a lift pump. Knock on wood, I've been pretty lucky with the 1093s though. I set only my third one the other night when doing a max EGT run. For what it's worth, my truck only sets 1093s when I'm below an eighth of a tank. Wierd!
What I'm really after is something to lower my EGTs! While I'm still really happy with the Predator, hitting 1600° at my altitude is no problem. For only giving up an approximate 20 RWHP (if that), this EZ looks like it has much lower exhaust temps.
Any body tried one on an LB7?

IIRC, they use a dynojet on a stock truck at high altitude. Perhaps that's the power they get. I'm at about 1000', have a lift pump, intake, 4" pipe, and using a Mustang.
Neat little box and cost effective.

Not yet. I sold my first one, and I probably won't buy a second. I bought the EZ as a stacker and didn't work. But I figured since the truck was on the rollers I test it out.

It does not bury the pyro as easy as the Predator. All the "race" tunes I've tested will bury the pyro.
Kennedy 04-27-2005, 11:37 AM The first time I drove one I told Aaron that it ran like a 90HP box. This was with no paperwork, claims etc. I have it dyno'd at 59.2, 69.2, and 88.6HP gains peak to peak. I've relayed comments that I'd like to see the tunes spread out a bit more and the lower level reduced. Still good to see the under rating continue!
EGT's with fast probe run 1424-1489° with open exhaust vs. 1258°f peak with stock program which is to be expected. These EGT's were also measured on a stationary dyno so out in the wind they'd be somewhat lower.
Same performance curves as havng a Juice levels 1, 2, and 3...
coyotekid 04-27-2005, 02:21 PM Have you dynoed the ver. 1.2 Juice on the 4 and 5 settings Kennedy?
Kennedy 04-27-2005, 03:12 PM Yes, but level 5 is too much for my still stock transmission...
LBZ DMAX 04-27-2005, 03:15 PM Yes, but level 5 is too much for my still stock transmission...
What were the numbers?
Kennedy, If you want to experiment putting a tranny in an 05 LLY before you do yours, you can use my truck!!
BlueOx03 04-27-2005, 10:09 PM Aright...who farted:(

tophog 04-27-2005, 10:31 PM Regarding the EZ ...sure sounds a lot like the original juice (pre attitude days) ... 3 power levels and adjust levels via switch now instead of footpedal. However I think the original juice levels were 40, 60, 90? Perhaps they are transforming obsolete Juice boxes into EZ's?
McRat 04-27-2005, 10:36 PM I think they are grabbing tunes 1,2,3 out of the J/A LLY "New". It still has the Attitude plug end, and the pyro leads, but they are non-functional. The toggle switch plugs into the Attitude end.
It is of interest that they are not modifying the boost. Perhaps this is why a VA is a better stacker.

Heck, the first juice beta's had no timing.
And the MASSIVE output of 60RWHP!
(Yes i still have that dyno sheet):ro)
formula280ss 04-30-2005, 10:31 AM McRat,
Based on the numbers you have, the only safe level for the LLY Ally would be level one?
McRat 04-30-2005, 11:16 PM You'd probably be OK on 2, but it would be marginal. I know 65rwhp won't hurt the trans, and 100 will. Would 79? There are people running 85hp tunes with good luck, and some have bad luck. Probably depends on your driving style.
