I wanted to check and see what most have done after changing your wheel size / tire size from OEM.

What I have is an increase from 16" to 18" . Of course my Factory OEM 16" Spare would not be something I would even want to attempt to use in the case of a flat. I was wondering if it would be best to fine a junkyard 18" or ....

I do carry a plug kit with compressor which will work as long as no side wall hole.

Thanks for your info in advance.

If worried on tire size based on number of rotation per size of the spare compared to the new ones then if say a back went out then pull a front off to replace the rear flat and place the spare on the front. Just take it slow and get it fix soon.

I was considering putting the "OLd" stock wheel with the BFG KO under as the spare. If memory serves there were only about 15-20 or so revelations difference.

I only am concerned when i'm traveling and am not near home or my normal options that I may not have when on the road.

Is this a bad idea?

Match the the overall spare tire height to the tire height of your regular tires. Some trucks come like this, the regular wheels would be bigger the than the spare. But the over all tire diameter is the same.

I blew out a right rear tire. I was running 22s and 37s. Pulled the stock spare out from under the truck and put it on the right front wheel and moved the front wheel to the rear. Yes, she rode lop sided but it got me to the nearest service station 50 miles away. Just do not use 4 wheel drive and don't go fast, it will get you to a service station. Definately do not put the smaller wheel on the rear though or you will lose your rear end. The G80 will think the smaller wheel is slipping and lock up both wheels and boom there goes the rear diff.

I was going to say something similar (although I did not know about the G80!). At least up to a 35-37" tire you can use a 31" spare. I lost the bead on a 36" tire wheeling and had no problems using the spare to get to a station.

So craigknox unless you are trying to rotate the tire in do not worry about a different sized spare. Unless you just feel like changing it.

I say keep the wheel and put a bigger tire on it. Match the tire diameter of the other tires.

I think a 33" is the largest you can put under the truck amd thats with a stock exhaust. Keep your spare man just do not put it on the rear if you lose a tire. Remember spare on the front and no 4 wheel drive.

When I got my H2's with 285/70R17 I upgraded my spare but kept my 16 in rim. I got a 255/85R16 I think and it just fits under the truck. I know that it is not exact same size but it is much better that the stock 245. I am glad that i had it for the first time that I had a flat ever in my truck.
