Hey Guys,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I recall from previous posts that the 6.5TD has an infamous oil leak. My wife's Burb has developed a leak, which is leaving oil all over the skid plate. Where does this oil leak originate. I remember something about the oil return lines, but I was hoping for a detailed description or maybe even a picture.

Thanks,

My suspicion is your engine oil cooler lines. Mine are doing the exact same thing at the moment (need to make time to get to those). At least this is what I believe the issue to be. I am actually planning on getting the power washer out, cleaning it up nicely in there, and driving it for a while to determine exactly where the oil is coming from. Do a search on "oil cooler lines" as there is some good reading there.

John. Just remove the skid plate and look. Where the cooler lines transition from rubber to aluminum is right in front of your face when you pull the plate. That's where they leak.

I carefully used a hacksaw blade to trim and a needle nose pliers to pry off the aluminum crimping material at the rubber-to-aluminum transition area and replaced it with small hose clamps. Two on each line. No leaks since doing it in December last year. It only takes 5~10 minutes per line to do. This is the cheap fix.

Other options are to buy stainless lines from a vendor or have a local hydraulic shop custom make some lines for you.

I would replace them with braided stainless if you can...my concern with mine was a hose splitting and engine failure. My 89 Sub 350 had a factory oil cooler on it, and I had a hose split on it while on the highway. I noticed the oil pressure drop and shut off at 65mph.. Did a roadside oil cooler removal as it was a "sandwich" type that goes between the oil filter and the block. Put in 4 quarts of oil and good to go. Never re-installed it.. The 6.5 factory cooler lines (rubber to aluminum) are of identical construction.

When I removed my 6.5 factory cooler lines I was amazed at the Whimpy clip the holds the cooler lines to the fitting on the block above the oil filter. Sure it makes replacement easy, but I would rather have a screwed fitting. GM must have had a few waranttee claims on these.
