. . . which I installed last weekend. "FUZE" gauge and sender sold with an ATS lable on the gauge face.
When my DMF trashed some time ago the stealer installed an TRANNY COOLER on this manual :p: because their zone rep told 'em to. It made no difference. Anyhow . . .
Now I have a CPMac's dual clutch discs and his single mass flywheel. They hold like gears :ro) . Problem is that sometimes the clutch gets so grabby that if I don't pay attention I can stall it . . . It also gets really squeally. So I decided to check the tranny temp to see if might have an effect on the clutch kit. . . .
at 10pm in the Rocky Mtn front range I went for a test drive for 30+miles. The tranny temp didn't get up to 150*F :muahaha:
Next month I have an out of state trip planned and the ambient temp will be higher and the drive longer so I will see how hot it gets. At this point I don't think the temp has ANY impact on the grabby clutch.
Anyone else seen handshaker temps ????

FYI, The trip I made a couple weeks ago the tranny temp went up to 210*F on the highway. Ambient temp was 80-95*F. Everthing seemed to work the same. My guess is the the cooler must have kicked on just above 200*F.

Deadeye,
I am interested in putting a trans temp gauge in. My ZF is stock (ie not cooler), is there a place on the one of the PTO plates or some other location to mount a temp probe? I am currently running ISSPRO EGT and boost gauges.
Thanks,
MaxRock

gearhead, MaxRock:
My tranny cooler was installed by the stealer over a year ago. I have never checked to see if it works. No manual switch, they must have installed a temp sensor which turns it on. They used a "coolman" (?) pump (maybe made by Shurflow? - anyhow it is the same pummp SD uses for the water/meth kit). I cannot hear it since it rarely comes on (temp rarely goes over 150*F and my clutch is noisy at idle.
The PTO plate is used for the in/out gearoil hoses to the cooler and for a temp sensor. I also installed my tranny temp gauge sensor in the PTO plate.
MaxRock, make sure you install the sensor below the height of the oil fill plug so that the sensor is always covered by oil.

I also installed my tranny temp gauge sensor in the PTO plate.
So you drilled and tapped the PTO cover...good idea. In your opinion, what temp range gauge should I use?
Thanks,

Yes, I drilled and put a nut on the inside and teflon thread tape to stop the leak. The gauge I have is from ATS for Auto trannies. ~100-280*F
I drive 20 miles to work and the temp rarely goes over ~110*F in the morning. It never makes 150*F unless I am driving a long time on the highway. I don't do any towing so I have no idea of the impact on tranny temp. Also, I don't know how high the temp would go if I did not have a cooler. BTW, I will check the cooler pump to make sure it is working ..
On my gauge, at ~210*F is at 12 o'clock.
Deadeye, check the exact pump mfg and model number. Most small diaphragm pumps like Shurflo are rated either 130, 170, or 180 degree max fluid. I don't know how long that pump will last if the themostat is set for 200+.

OK, thanks. As for the thermostat rating, I have no idea. Someone suggested it was ` 200*

Where can the cooler kit be purchased from? Truck is out of std. warranty. Trans gets hot after being under heavy load.

I seem to recal the pump was "coolman" . I did not buy it so I am not sure it is a "kit". I think the cooler radiator is universal. I don't know anything about the sensor/thermostat. I sure someone on this forum should know. What about asking one of the tech members?
