Wow Could not be happier. My last truck was an 03 cummins and this thing blows it away! The allison with the integrated brake controller is just awesome. I kept asking my wife are you sure there is a camper back there?? LOL. Any way just wanted to say hi and can't wait for our summer trek to Charleston/MB.
PS the superglide hitch install went well also..If anyone has any q's let me know.

capflya 04-28-2009, 12:39 AM I know what you mean... if there wasn't a big trailer behind you wouldn't know its there!
clydeg 04-28-2009, 08:51 AM Just completed my first somewhat long distance tow myself this weekend. I sure as heck could tell I had a trailer back there (unlike some of the others claim) but I was happy with the performance. I was pulling a boat that weighs about 9000 lbs for 400 miles and it did pull great! I was able to set the cruise at 65 and the truck only downshifted a couple a times going up hills. But the downshifts were nothing like my old 6.0l gas engine that would be twisting over 5k rpms. It ran along at about 1600rpm in 6th gear and would downshift and kick up to only about 1900rpms climbing hills. I was really impressed with the integrated brake controller. My boat trailer has electric over hydraulic brakes and after adding the little brake magnet device to the system, it worked perfectly. I managed to get about 11-12mpg throughout the trip.

PM sent!
chevdude 04-28-2009, 11:56 AM I just finished a 900 miles trip in my 09 Chev 2500 CC SWB Stock pulling a 5th wheel weighing 14000 lbs. A real difference in pulling power compared to my 04 LLY pulling the same trailer. But.......Fuel mileage is way down. It only has 3000 miles on it but maybe it will improve in time.
05duramax073 04-28-2009, 03:00 PM the new ones just will not get the mileage the old ones did. unless you rip off the filter and other shit. totally different animals now because of emission controls.
kbaum08 04-28-2009, 04:37 PM Also more power equals less mileage, most of the time.
Whiskey Tango 05-01-2009, 12:00 AM I left So.California for Iowa and got 19.5 mpg going 75-80 mph. Picked up my 5th wheel trailer 8200lbs and got 9.5 mpg at 65 mph. I was very happy with the truck.
christopherglenn 05-01-2009, 12:14 AM lb7's generaly get the best fuel economy. The lly added a little power, and a cat. the lbz's lowered the compression ratio, and added a bunch of power, the trade off for that was fuel economy. the lmm's have a dpf & regen which suck fuel, with no more power.
TA Dave 05-01-2009, 12:22 AM I've found that the weight isn't the issue as much as the aerodynamics of the trailer. Wind resistance isn't your friend. Anything you can do to help the wind up and over your trailer will help your mpg.
I have a 28ft enclosed race trailer, and I get the same mpg with the trailer loaded as I do when it's empty. 6500 lbs Vs 10000 lbs.

i agree i have three trailers 16 ft dump for work, 34 ft boat trailer, and a 24 foot enclosed sled trailer. i get the same mileage in the enclosed with nothing in it, or with 5 snowmobiles and gear bag for five. the boat trailer with the boat on it weighs more then then the sled trailer however i get the same mpg, i think because of the aerodynamics of the boat itself.

Also the vaccuum created in the back of the trailer.

Hey Jim,
A little off topic here but does your 5th have bunks in the front? I saw the two windows in your photo. If so how do you like the rear bedroom? That is a nice rig, good luck this summer and travel safe.

Thanks for the compliment. We really love the camper our two boys have the bunks and a couch upstairs. Our bedroom is in the back with another slide for our bed.
stockrex 05-03-2009, 01:34 AM Jim,

jd03ctd 05-03-2009, 07:03 AM Jim,

I got between 10-11 mpg
I bought my lbz that actually was dec. 05 over the phone because of emission stuff. I bought it early 07 just hit 10,000 miles thank god I did it. I was offered 35,000 for it because of year and miles. I wont sell it can never be replaced.
jd03ctd 05-04-2009, 06:58 AM I would not trade my nbs lmm for an lbz. My neighbor has a lbz and he like mine better also so...Opinions I guess..

a2madmac 05-04-2009, 07:50 AM Just a word to the wise. My truck pulling this (see pic) loaded with fresh water,(approx 45 gal imp.) was 19260 lbs across a CAT scale. That is 760 lbs over the gvcwr..... Trailer size in my sig.
One other note, driver license, in Ontario I would need to have a "D" license to be able to drive legally. I believe the upgraded license is needed at 15000lbs. (that is a guess).
I stopped at the scale (DOT) and asked about the technicalities. He wasn't going to hassle anyone in RVs but if there was an accident. The insurance company has the tendency to deny, find at fault etc... for any discrepancies/rules that are not followed. The "book" being the measure.
He was very helpful came out and checked the unit out, asked me what class of license I had. He saw that I have A/Z, and mentioned the fact that many would not realize the need for an upgraded license. He thanked me for coming in and said the next time if I wanted to get a weight not to pay 11 bucks at the CAT scale just come up to the scale house and they would (if not to busy ) help out in any way.
Didn't mean to change the topic of the thread.
Coolbreeze 05-04-2009, 02:05 PM Not sure if I would believe him about the license. Something like that should have been well published. Anyhow I love your trailer. Titanium's are my favorite and wish I had one.
BlackSilver 05-04-2009, 08:30 PM I've had 3 DMax's, an LB7, an LLY, and now an LMM. The LMM and 6-speed Allie is by far the best towing combo of the three (I pull about 14,000#). You're gonna love it if you get into any mountains pulling that trailer.
Jasondt2001 05-04-2009, 08:34 PM Off topic but, JD the trailer's beautiful! I'm also VERY jealous of your YARD and area... what a beautiful place to live!

You are NOT over your GVCWR. The 18,500# rating is for the 6-liter small block gas engine.
The rating for a 3500HD DRW with DMax is 23,500# so your weight above was 4,240# UNDER the max rating.
Just thought you'd want to know.

a2madmac 05-04-2009, 09:20 PM The info here is right off the Ontario ministry of transport site.
http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/driver/handbook/section1.2.0.shtml
Class D
Allowed to drive any truck or combination provided the towed vehicle is not over 4,600 kg.
May also drive vehicle in class G
Class G
Allowed to drive any car, van or small truck or combination of vehicle and towed vehicle up to 11,000 kg provided the towed vehicle is not over 4,600 kg.
I did say I was guessing..... now I'm not.
1 kg = 2.2 lbs
if your trailer is over 4600kg or 10120 lbs you need the upgraded license.
My trailer is 9,341 lb. Dry Weight
but loaded up with regular stuff and full propane tanks and full fresh water tank it came in a little over 11000.
Again the DOT officer was adamant that he was not going to start pulling over RVs just the insurance angle might interest some....
In my industry you can have 6 drunks drive into you all going the wrong way on the interstate. If you have fudged or made a mistake on your log book you will be guilty.......
BlackSilver 05-04-2009, 09:33 PM Class D
Allowed to drive any truck or combination provided the towed vehicle is not over 4,600 kg.

Here in Minnesota a class D (regular grade drivers license like Aunt Emma has) can drive:
Single unit and combination up to 26,000 lbs GVWR
All recreational vehicles (no weight limit)
All farm vehicles
a2madmac 05-04-2009, 09:37 PM Yes I do want to know. I looked high and low thru the manual to find the gvcwr and it showed 18500.The DOT guy looked too....
I stand corected on the weight. Didn't think to look in the diesel manual.
On one hand I feel better about the capacity on the other, the rock I climbed under is heavy:banghead:
But thankyou.
