Can anyone tell me where the best place is to put the pick-up for a boost guage on a '04 Duramax (LB7)

If you want to do it cleanly and relatively easily, contact Super Diesel on this board for one of his intercooler manifolds. By replacing the factory piece, you can get an excellent boost tap without any drilling or permanent modification.

i'm wondering....

the edge attitude picks up boost info electronically. if it's available via wire, why don't boost gauges just tap in by wire somewheres?

I think the Edge reads it from the ECM, and I think the data going to and from it are a little more complex than older vehicles.

I put mine in the rubber wastegate line. It was very easy and no drilling required all I had to do was cut the hose.

I have had it in the WG line(easy install) but since I bought a superdiesel manifold I had it in there also. WG line is very easy and has no permanent modifications. You could also TAP the manifold after the rubber tube right before it goes into the motor, were the factory boost sensor is and the air intake heater.

The factory boost sender could be used. You could just steal signal like the juice does or if you were sharp you could tap into its wire some how. Problem is factory sender is a 3 bar IIRC so its signal is limited.

If you want true MAP pressure, without taping you can put a "T" in the MAP sensor boost line, it is located about 2" down stream of the intake heater on the curve of the intake manifold tube. The rubber line that you cut is about 3" long and you just put a "T" in it just like you would the wastegate line. Only with the MAP sensor you get true intake pressure not just turbo pressure. My trucks pressure lost threw the piping and intercooler is 3 psi. If the waste gate line reads 10 psi the map sensor reads 7 psi. Either place is good, wastegate is easier to install. I just prefer to have the reading that the ECM see's rather than the pressure at the turbo.

dang! I didnt know/didnt see the rubberintake tube your talking about.. I drilled into the intercooler lead pipe... south of the rubber intake boot - didnt want to drill into the intake manifold- figured the aluminum intercooler pipe was cheaper.
