Trying to hook some rear utility lights in the back of my truck. Trying to hook them to the button on the dash for the "plow package".....the button right above the fog light button. This button also turns on the white lights next to my 3rd brake light. Pulled the dash apart and got to the plug. Tried with my test light and cant find power on any of these wires.....even when the lights are on next to the 3rd brake light. HELP!
I dont want to add another switch to my dash, i want the lights to work off this factory switch
I thought it might be my test light, but it works fine when tested on fuses etc

went thru this with my 99. the trucks are ground switched not hot switched. BIG PITA.

use a fuse adder for a keyed on factory fuse to feed the new lights. you will need a relay with normally open, and normally closed contacts with a common center. te "hot" wire from the fuse will go to center common terminal and the "load" wire to the lights will go to the normally closed terminal. the "hot" wire will also go to one side of the coil of the relay. the "ground" wire for the coil will go to the wire from the factory dash switch wire that goes up to the cab cargo light. this will now hold the coil "on" when the cargo lights are "off". when you push the button to turn the cargo light "on" the relay will now be "of" and you aux lights will come on.
