Got a crazy idea guys. Found a "burned" allison trans. for 400 bucks. I am going out on a limb here and thinking its the clutches. So with that said, I was thinking of buying it an building my own transmission. How cool would that be? So my question is, does the suncoast stage 4 kit consist of everything I would need to rebuild said trans? What all can burn up in a trans? Clutches/steels and converter right? Figure I get the stage 4, ASTG rebuild manual and go at it. What do you guys think? Bad idea?

Just make sure said trans is the same year range as yours... Lots of us have built our own tranny's...

Any words of advice? Manuals? Did you need special tools? How hard was it?
The said trans is out of a 4x4 2006 GMC. Just gotta make sure its a 6 speed.

Hell yes you can do it! Take pictures and do an update as you go along.
Now is a great time to buy the Stage 4 kit less the TC we have on sale. We can also get you torque converters too.

Need a clean work area. As you take it apart, just line all the parts up. Make sure you put all your bearings back in the way they came out. Need something to compress the C2 return springs do a search and you will find what people are using. Big set of snap ring pliers, and I mean "big"! Just the ATSG and Transmission times. Its really not that hard as long as you take your time and keep the beer out of the work area when you are taking it apart and putting it back together. I think there is a tutorial on how to do em some were around here. Oh and a way to hang the trans from an engine stand. I just made a twin of the PTO cover with a tube welded to it...
I do them in a weekend, so no need for a spare in my neck of the woods...

you are not going to know if something else burnt that shouldnt have. since this would be your first time into the tranny you will not have years of experience telling you what looks right and what looks wrong.
with that said I would do it if I were you just be meticulous and very fussy and ask a lot of questions to the people who sell you the rebuild kit. ask them for their home phone and cell phone because chances are you will be doing this on the weekend when they are out fishing or something.
good luck let us know how it goes.

I got that manual from a guy on here. Really helpful. Think there is a vendor that has 'em now. Cant remember who though.

i would take lots of pics while takin apart that way you have some really good directions putting back together between them and a manual

On low mileage Ally's the only thing really fried is the clutches and steel's. C1-C4, which is included in the SC III kit and SC IV kits... Only other thing I have seen on stock transmissions when removed is a bad torrent bearing, but it had 100,000 on the clock. Having one to work on for a week is not a bad thing, I am just speaking of my experience... And since most people are on a budget when they build them a core is usually out of reach. But if you have the funds go for it! A lot of people here will help you and if you buy the kit from someone reputable they will give you all there number for building support and will help if any problems arise down the road...
