Among the 2M vehicles GM is recalling, it states:

"More than 142,000 1500 Series 1999-2002 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierra pickups were also recalled, along with 2500/3500 Series 2001-2004 manual transmission pickups, on potential parking brake problems. "

Anyone know what this is specifically?

I had enough and took apart the brakes over the weekend. I found that the brake shoes for the emergency brake on the drivers side to be soaked with rear axle lube. The axle seal had failed. Big suprise, the passenger side was leaking too, just not as bad yet. I adjusted the star ring to tighten the shoes slightly, but am still waiting on a seal for the passenger side. I hope clean brakes takes care of this problem.

Rear disc parking brakes with one shoe will get a new spring clip retainer and ones with two shoes will get a new cable.
