A friend of mine has an 03 Dmax CC Short box and wanted to know which one would be best. He is interested in the Granetelli programmer, Edge Attitude combo, and the Bully Dog Power Pup. If you could tell me some pro's and cons of each and maybe some personal experiences it would be muchly appreciated. He does use the truck to haul a mudbogger on a car trailer, but other than that just light duty use. Thanks in advance!:)

My experience has been with the juice attitude combo and I can't say enough about how much I liked it. I would definetly recommend it for any truck with a stock tranny. It protects the tranny well but feels really strong. I tow all the time and even the lower levels made the trailer feel a lot lighter. The only reason I don't use it anymore is because I got a really high horsepower program now. Good luck.

There are many good units available for the Dmax LB7. Edge, Van Aaken, Quadzilla, and Diablo are the top choices IMHO. Do not let your friend get carried away though. Stick to a more conservative unit unless he plans to modify the tran$mi$$ion...

Yeah, we already talked about that. ;) He just want's a slight increase (60hp) or so and better fuel mileage. As far as the chips go, we were more concerned about how they each get their gains. I could be wrong, but from what I understand some chips get the increase from increasing the pressure in the rail/injectors and I also understand this to be quite hard on the injectors as well as resulting in higher egt. Am I way off base here or is there some truth to that?

Least expensive for his needs (60hp) is the Hypertech.

Very few psi type mods out there these days for the Dmax. Psi boxes don't typically gain a lot of EGT because there is less to work with and less ability to reshape the curve.

Hypertech may be better on the LB& than the LLY, but it is not impressive on my LLY by any means.

Edge is good for the money but the power bug will get him!!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/rockon.gif

He should just break down and get as much power as he can afford and when the extra power is needed, it is just at a push of a pedal. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif

The Hypertech is a 90HP chip 4 settings stock, 50hp, 70hp, 90hp with 164 lbs of TQ with the 90 setting. You are only suppost to run on the 50hp setting when pulling heavy loads so you don't slip the trans. Gauges would be a plus to. I got 3-4 MPG better with the chip on the 90hp setting and didn't see any improments in MPG on the 50hp setting and never tried 70hp. I went from 16-17 MPG to 19-20 MPG on 90hp setting. No smoke stock or 50hp setting and small showy puff on the 90hp when you first step into it.:ro) Mine has some small fishbiting (pulseing of power) when not up to operating temp. Chip is like year-in-a-half old so maybe they have it fixed by now. Can read DTCs and adj. for tire size from 23" to 38". Good chip and I am going to get a bigger one here soon and am going to sell this one if you are intersted in it PM me. It'll be half the price of a new one:grd: !!

....I use BD-Powers "Intimidator" PP. It was reasonably priced and it gives me that extra umph I enjoy when hauling our 10.5' slide-in camper and better fuel economy by 2-3 mpig. I matched it up with BD-Powers "X-Monitor" digital display c/w pyro & boost readouts. The X-Monitor also has the "Cool Engine Shutdown" timer (Turbo-Saver) added to it. This co mbo gives me everything I need for the long haul. Good luck....................SWH...:cool2:

Unless he's out to race, I also think the Edge Juice/Attitude combo seems to be the best for everyday use. I bought it specifically because it has built-in transmission protection. I sure like it.:D

I've had a Hot Juice which is usually on 90hp regular and 60hp in Tow/Haul that has been on our '02 LB7 for over 60,000 miles ... works flawlessly, provides excellent power and is very Allison friendly
