: Intakes
Tbirdfiend281 04-25-2009, 05:51 PM so i think ive settled on getting an S&B intake for my truck for price, quality and me actually wanting the full tube, not just a cone filter with an heat shield, but i was wondering if anyone has any horror stories or positive feedback on these, or if anyone has a suggestion for a higher quality intake to buy
things are just so pricey :(
Horsehaulin 04-25-2009, 06:48 PM Moved to Intake Upgrades.
serpa4 04-25-2009, 07:04 PM If you search, you'll find a ton of info on all brands of intakes. From my readings, most can fit into 3 catagories:
1) Modify stock intake=great and free and many think that if you're under 500hp, then it will flow plenty of air. Not everyone agrees on that, but stock is very good at least on the LBZ engines.
2) Best bang for buck is S&B, no complaints that I know of.
3) Best intake Banks, but also pricy. "Best" is subject to much debate and just my opinion and many others, but not all.
You should be very happy with your S&B.
Horsehaulin 04-25-2009, 07:19 PM S&B is a good intake for the price, just make sure you have a dry style filter. Or keep tons of MAF cleaner on hand!
Tonewhy 04-26-2009, 12:03 PM I've had an S&B on my LB7 for about 15k now and have had absolutely no problems. Little Better gas mileage (about 1mpg in reality) and good sound on the turbo whistle. It was very easy to install and clean. I would definitely get another S&B if I ever get another truck (hopefully at 400k when this one dies :))
Tbirdfiend281 04-26-2009, 01:19 PM well thats good info, ill just grab the S&b, ive always liked there filters, just never expected them to be the budget intake for the dmax
DSTRBD 04-27-2009, 11:33 AM S&B kits use an oiled filter which has not had any MAF issues to speak of. You will be very happy with your S&B intake.
Tbirdfiend281 04-28-2009, 12:08 PM i see the volant intakes cost about the same, not to get to picky, but how do they square up against the S&B's?

S&B is better!:D
Tbirdfiend281 04-29-2009, 01:59 AM that's what i thought
DuraBeast2 04-29-2009, 10:52 AM Has anybody checked out/used "TrueFlow" Air Intakes?
Tbirdfiend281 04-29-2009, 01:46 PM ive seen those, there like 170 a piece maybe?
DuraBeast2 04-29-2009, 01:49 PM $200 delivered with filter, but on LB7, you retain stock intake box.
PS, I used to live in Baltimore in the early '80s and most recently in Frederick. I think my wife misses your mall!
Tbirdfiend281 04-29-2009, 02:06 PM the Fredrick mall or the white marsh mall?
if she misses that one she should see Arundle Mills Mall, its like more then a mile of walking if you go around the little oval setup it has, its ridiculously huge
i thought the restriction with the LB7's was the filter housing? i could be wrong, i think the whole factory intake system does rather well myself
DuraBeast2 04-29-2009, 02:48 PM I have the oem setup with TXCAI and the Donaldson/Amsoil filter in it
Yes that Anne Arundal mall is HUGE. Where we now live, no such thing as a traffic jam. Much slower pace of life.
Tbirdfiend281 04-30-2009, 11:51 AM the big rig air filter just exposed? is thats what you mean by the TXCAI?
DuraBeast2 05-06-2009, 05:00 PM No it fits in OEM Air box. There is a rubber (plate) cut out to fit around the airbox, preventing hot under hood entering the air box. It also fits tightly against the inner fender well.
durdy1 05-07-2009, 08:03 AM i love my s&b, price is good too
