: I'm a newbie looking for power
htmax 04-25-2005, 11:39 AM Ok, I'm no mechanic and don't want to work on a pick up all the time. I just want some extra power without upgrading exhaust or intake and without worrying about egt. What programmer/or module would ya'll recommend?
From the research I've been doing edge juice with attitude seems like a good product especially after pricing pyrometers but still a little expensive.
Do I need pyrometer with the edge set on say 50-75? What is min power upgrade before pyro is needed??????
I appreciate any help and recommendations. Just don't say bite the bullet and buy all the other stuff, I know it will be worth it, but I don't want to go that route. I just want to piddle a little.
Slick 04-25-2005, 11:47 AM Do you tow?
htmax 04-25-2005, 11:53 AM Pu is a 02 crew. I pull quite a bit to the lake and to stock shows. Nothing heavy though. Boat is a 17 ft bass tracker, no probs there???, stock trailer is bumper pull 16 ft, with a hand full of hogs, no problem there????? Pick up pulls fine stock, would like the extra passing power and hopefully fuel economy.
Blinky 04-25-2005, 12:08 PM I'm partial to Edge..... great customer service .....and haven't had a reason to try any other boxes......
Do a search and you'll find a lot of information from those here that have tried them all.....
By the way, welcome and enjoy the site.........:)
TheMonkey 04-25-2005, 12:25 PM I just want to piddle a little.
So just one little upgrade? Then you're all set?
Good luck, have fun, be safe, and welcome aboard.
htmax 04-25-2005, 12:37 PM Can it be done monkey? Whats your recommendation?
Gonfishin 04-25-2005, 12:41 PM  TheMonkey knows about the piddle (P) :muahaha: Sorry man I couldnt resist.
Rick.
partsguy662 04-25-2005, 12:45 PM Can it be done monkey? Whats your recommendation?ht - what monkey is saying is once you start with one upgrade, you'll more than likely be looking for more...
At any rate, it sounds like what you're looking for is a plug-in programmer....
Staying on the lowest setting you should be safe without gauges, however they still would be a good idea...Knowing what our engine is doing is valueable information...
If you aren't against spending a little extra $$, the juice along with the attitude monitor is an excellent value (gauges in the monitor) also, Trippin makes a dandy mount for it for our trucks.:cool2:
If you want to spend less than $400 clams, a predator or hypertech programmer is probably what you should be looking at..
Welcome aboard the site.:)
htmax 04-25-2005, 01:15 PM Thanks part guy. Can I do it in stages. Of course my first step would be out of order and that would be the programmer. Can i run the edge at min power without a pyro..?
CHOPJAW 04-25-2005, 01:19 PM I just put on the Edge after trying the Banks. Hands down the edge is better. As far as power, get the Edge. It's quite versitle, you can run it mild to wild. Very user friendly and straight forward. YOu might have to ask questions about some of the reading but this is the forum for that. Most here are very helpful.
partsguy662 04-25-2005, 01:23 PM Thanks part guy. Can I do it in stages. Of course my first step would be out of order and that would be the programmer. Can i run the edge at min power without a pyro..?I suppose a guy could do that, but in my opinion, I would put the edge unit in along with the pyro for the monitor.....Basically an afternoon project and you're set to go....
htmax 04-25-2005, 01:26 PM I tell you what this site is great! My problem is no one does crap half way,
it's all or nothing kind of deal which is smart but high dollar. I bet it's high dollar if it's not done right too but [U]theres got to be a safe way to add power 1st and then build off of it. What is it?
htmax 04-25-2005, 01:27 PM Is there a unexpensive reliable pyro? Say 50-80$$$$
TheMonkey 04-25-2005, 01:55 PM Can it be done monkey? Whats your recommendation?
hey ht... sure it can be done. but it is tough (to stop - at the piddle point). i just wanted a little kiss of power, and now i'm catching myself looking at tranny upgrades  .
if you want just a bit more than stock... consider a plug-in. they are easy to de-program for a visit to the dealer. keep a good relationship with them because your injectors are warrantied for 200k miles - unless already replaced.
problem with all this, is that each step you take is a step closer to the next level. so... if you got the plug-in, you'll want a guage. gauges will cost up to a couple hundred, which is nice to spend that $ toward an edge/attitude. it's a vicious, never ending cycle that will cost a ton of money but you'll be able to rip the head right off the clown in the bmw (pick any car) next to you and leave them in a cloud of black soot.
but... to answer your question, get a mild plug in for not too much money, and forget the gauges for now. enjoy it. after all, mild upgrade on this site, is a heap of new power to the first timer. check out classifieds... tom (the bac with 'big red truck') is selling bully dog programmer for LB7 for 300. i've heard that is a great plug-in. you could save 150 (?) buying used from him or someone else.
htmax 04-25-2005, 02:16 PM Thanx monkey big help! I think I'll look that guy up.
Newtorving 04-26-2005, 12:25 AM HT- Edge has come out with an EZ box for the LB7 motor. 65hp max. There are a few people who have one but have not had time to test it alone. I am looking at getting one for my 8000# TT. You might want to check it out.
CaptainTrips 04-26-2005, 04:42 AM I would say get a predator programer, installes in 5 mins with you doing nothing but sitting in the cab uploading data. You can read/clear any codes you get on your truck, adj for different size tires, etc...all that for under $400
Ridge Runner 04-26-2005, 03:39 PM Unless they have upgraded the predator for the LB7, I would go with the Edge Juice, then then upgrade to the Attitude later.
IMHO.
