I Just Found Out That Dodge Has A Idle Up Feature That Dealer Can Activate By Programming And Re-flashing The Computer. Does Duramax Have This? I Would Love It. I Idle A Lot At The Ranch And It Sure Would Be Nice To Have Engine Idle At About 1100-1200 Rpm. If Not Is There An After Market Device That Can Be Installed?

Do a search on High idle. the year of your truck will make a difference in how you do it, but it's easy. Literally one wire, if you do it without a switch.

just curious, but why would that be good?

just curious, but why would that be good?i beleive that if a diesel engine sets at idle for an extended amount of time, the engine cools off and does not burn the all of the fuel in the cylinder which caused carbon build up on the valves. i am not an expert but it sounds like it could be true. anyone care to elaborate or correct me. i would really like to know why we need a high idle otherwise. my truck had one on it when i bought used and thanks to kennedys tech tips, i figured out what that switch on my dash board was for:thanks john:D . i know that furd and dodge both have automatic high idle and was also wondering why chevy doesn't.

The LLY D-Max's do have a cold weather high idle.

Ever wonder why there is a dull roar at truck stops? It's because all the trucks are high idling--alaskaduramax pretty much got the answer in the post above. The condition where diesels cool down at dead idle and don't completely burn all fuel is known as "wet stacking." While wet stacking isn't as much of a problem with modern computerized fuel injection which precisely controls the amount of fueling at idle, I still like to high-idle any diesel when idling for more than approx. 5 minutes.

Your mileage may vary...

just curious, but why would that be good?Another reason is that the air conditioners in these trucks are not very efficient at "normal" idle in +100* heat.

It's nice for giving out jump starts too.

A large diesel is actually more efficient at a higher idle (no load). The flywheel and balancer if giving more load (and more fuel burn) and a low idle than at a high.
