: Any Pointers for installing Exhaust
My wife should have her 304 Mbrp exhaust today, the single. It is the cat-back. Is there anything I will have a hard time doing, if I install it myself? Any pointers? I know she will help if it is a 2 person job. Is there any cutting I would have to do?
Thanks again for everyones help on here.
Doug
yamahagrizzly 04-25-2005, 06:09 AM its more or less a 1 person job but 2 would make it much easier. also try jacking the right side of the truck off the ground. i had no problems getting the cat back part off my truck! just keep twisting the whole system and inching it threw. at one point you will think u cant do anything else to get it out and then she slides right out. no cutting or removing anything to get the system out.
gunbunny 04-25-2005, 01:59 PM I agree with yamahagrizzly...if you jack it up high enough under the right passengers side you can slide the old exhaust out without cutting. Mine came out pretty easily. Congrats on the exhaust.
p.s. Make sure you use a jack stand and block the wheels.

Can you let me know what difference this makes. I have been thinking about the CAT back as well. If you have a Pyrometer let me know if you have lower EGT's.
Thanks
Is it easier to slide it out the front or back?

A lil squirt of WD 40 will make poping the rubber mounts much easier.
Watch so you dont wack your bed side with the tip getting it in/out.
cit1991 04-25-2005, 06:20 PM Like they said, jack up the right side as far as you can...and use stands as backup.
The hardest part is getting the old system off the hangers. The stock hangers have "nubs" on the ends that have to pass through the holes in the rubber hangers. Once those are off, you can remove it by twisting it to clear the rear axle.
The new one goes in easy. Once it's in loose, then figure out which hangers to use. The directions are useless for ID'ing the hangers.
On mine the tip didn't fit, so I had to bend it open a bit.
Don't forget to remove the old grafoil gaskeet at the cat before installing the new one.
HDjeff 04-25-2005, 06:33 PM like the others said, i just did this 2 weeks ago, make sure you wd40 the old hangers, the system came off really easy and in one peice, but i have a lift which changes things. it took 45 min to do the change, if jacking up the side, i would expect a little longer but fit/ finish was great from mbrp. nice quiet sound, nothing annoying.
Thanks everyone for the help!!!!! You guys are just awesome. It took a little bit to get the old one out but with the help of Lisa, we got it out. I started at 6:15, not to bad, I think, without ever doing this before. Well, she is going to take it for a drive. I will post, or her, if anything feels different.
Thanks alot again!!!
Doug
Be right back soon.
Hey guys,
I just got back from my first ride with the new exhaust. I am very pleased with it. It felt more responsive to me when I took off and seemed like I didn't have as much turbo lag as I had before at certain points. I got on it and unless I am just having wishful thinking, I noticed a difference in the performance. It feels like it goes through the shifts quicker. I love the sound of it when tow mode is on and it downshifts, totally cool and it sounds more like a diesel to me, not a bad thing. I have to thank John at DPS for ALL the help he gave Doug when he purchased it for me - what a great guy! Now, what to do next...hmmmm?
Thanks for the help you gave Doug, I appreciate it.
Lisa

I am sure that if you keep reading here you will find all sorts of goodies to put on your truck! ):h
MXdiesel 04-26-2005, 01:30 AM Like.......hmm an lb7 front pipe if you have a cat!! I think thats my next mod =).
CaptainTrips 04-26-2005, 04:36 AM I installed my MBRP exhaust last week, and the one tip I could have given you was, Sawzall. I fought for 30 min trying to get the stock muffler off the hangers, then I said fug it, 5 min later I had 4 cut hangers and the muffler in 2 pieces sitting next to the truck :grd:. I'm never putting it back on so what do I care if it's not in one piece :D
tdubz 04-26-2005, 02:46 PM I'm thinking about running a Cat-Back system. Does anyone make one that doeasn't have a muffler. And is there anyone who has a pipe to replace the cat. I want to run completly staright piped but I really dont want to have to use the flex tubing. Just wondering if it would be cheaper to just get a complete new exhuast system?
