I put this Hella flush mount in my toolbox when I installed it. Just now getting around to making it HOT. I think this should help alot with my night 'hookin.

RUNNINHORN Notice you updated your location, 'bout a stones throw away. I hitched on to your thread about the cognito install. I think I could do it, but it could be a PITA at the same time.

Yea, your just up the road a bit. I am the same way, I "think" I could do it fairly easy, but currently in an apartment do to buying a home soon I dont really have the tools and space that I used to have in a home, so im a bit leery about tackling this......I found a kid at SMU that from another site that has done 10-15 of these in the area for guys for extra $$$ on the side, he says he will do mine, but it will be about 6 weeks due to his finals and a vacation right after that......so if I dont find anyone else, Ill either use him or possible try to tackle it myself.........

Is that one of the dual beam hellas? How do you like it? I am about to do something something somewhat similar and am trying to decide up which lights to use.

Yes, it is the dual beam flush mount hella. I just wired it on sunday and haven't used it yet. But with the tailgate down it flooded the shop door with light, and has plenty of light in the bed to make all of the connections. I will let you know how good it is once I hitch up my gooseneck at night. It is bound to help though.

Where did you find that flush mount dual beam? Been looking around on the Hella site and a few other places and haven't seen it. Just finishing the mount of my compressor and accessory air in my tool box - i think this would be a nice addition for lighting the bed when retrieving stuff w/the tonneau cover still on.

Use to have it mounted in a 12" drop bumper on my '93 chevy dually as a backup lamp.

Rolloff,

That is where I found the lights also. How good is the beam on the light when you used it as a reverse light? how long/wide? I have been trying to decide between the dual beam lights featured in AW for almost a month now and can't decide which one. They have a long range and close range light in the round non-flush style that I am considering.

I'd hate to lie to ya but it's been a long time and I have a short memory! I know it worked great hooking up the bumper pull's. Also had pretty dark window tint, and could always see what was behind me. As far as size, not sure. It is hard to measure now with it in the bed. I could go out tonight and see how far behind, but couldn't tell you how wide due to the bed. I do have the same light in the non flush mount. I will do a little research tonight.

Alright duckhunter

I hooked 'um up to my batt. charger, like the catalog says 35' range. It is safe to say the square dual beam hella's put off a 25'x25' easy. I do remember never having a problem seeing behind my in my old dually. I'm guessing the 35' range they have listed is to the end where the light runs out. Very bright at 25'. I did see the oval beam hellas they have with something like 75' range. Thats alot of light! I guess for me looks would play a part in them. That is why I went with the flush dual beams. Hope this helps you any.

Rolloffhill and RUNNINHORN

You could come to my house, if you need the space and tools. Are you looking to install the Cognito's leveling kit, if so I installed their kit at my house. You could come over on some weekend and we'll getter done. I have air tools, electric tools, big tools box, conpressor and anything else needed to do just about anything. I live in Watauga which is just south of keller and west of North Richland Hills.

Thanks for the offer but space and tools are the least of my problems. Time is my worst enemy, I have none! I had offered runninhorn a place to do his cognito if he needed it. I am a pipeline contractor, so I have a good size shop, (60x60) and plenty of tools as I service everything I own myself. Thanks anyway.

If you were going to use the lights to work on the end of an 18ft trailer hooked behind the truck would you think it would be enough light?

How quickly does the light begin to spread out from the light? In other words, does the 25ft start very close to the light or do you have to go out some distance before it spreads?

I was interested in the long range ones but I was afraid the beam would be too much like a spotlight. Hella did not have a beam pattern chart yet on these round lights. Of course, I plan on putting a pair behind the crossbed box on my truck and thought about going with one of each. ;)

Sorry for all the questions, but you are the first person that I have found that has had experience with these lights.

Putting them in the toolbox like I did is going to limit your lite alot! You wont get a very big pattern. At the widest point it is about 25x25 tapering from the light out 25 feet. You will definitly have light to work on your trailer but is it enough? I can't really answer honestly. Like I said before it is alot of light for backing up, but I had it mounted in the bumper close to the ground. Where you mount it is going to change alot of variables.

Hope this helps.

Light for night hookin'?? The less light the better for night hookin' around here. Even day hookin' is done in dark areas.

You don't want light because it would reveal your identity?

I am going to mount the lights above the bed rails, behind the crossbed toolbox on a rail across the bed, so the beam won't be confined like yours.

Yeah, you just said that it was pretty bright at about 25ft, I was wondering if you thought it was bright enough to use it to work.

Oh yeah, how do they mount? 4 small holes to mount and then a big hole in the center to clear the back of the lamp?

Now two light is a different story, I had a 12' box van(mobile shop) mounted on my 32' gooseneck with 2 12v caterpillar lights and that was bright!

For the flush mount it is one big hole in the middle for the light and 2 screws on the sides in the center.

Post pics when you get it done, I would like to see it.:ro)
