Ok I made a big mistake buy the 04.5 lly they suck big timemy truck is going thru some problems now. I wish I would have waited. Also it is sunning so damn hot while I pull my trailer and I am so sick of GM stealer telling there are no problems. I wish I would have bought a used LB7. Anyone towing anything with there 04.5 lly and is happy there must be something wrong.

I like my 05 LLY. 20,500 miles and rolling!

I'll agree with the Cat still on they run way to hot. Remove the cat with an LB7 downpipe and it will help. I'll also recommend blocking the EGR and running an intake. I know it sucks having to have warranty problems and spend hard earned money just to use it as a truck. I am running an MBRP with the stock intake and hitting 1200 loaded on hills with the stock tune. . I made one trip with the cat on and turned the exhaust pipe purple and blue from the heat. I had to hit 1500 with the stock truck.:weld:

Sorry you're having so many probs with your LLY. Not sure if there's any differnce between 4.5 and 05 but it's the best decision I've ever made (first time deezul). Hope you find a resolution.

my 04.5 tows great. tranny temp is good, under 200 @ 85 mph with a 12000lbs trailer load. the egts were around 1250 going up overpasses, but when i lost my muffler, it is around 1100, but quickly drops down to between 750 and 900. what are the temps you are considerring hot? towing, my coolant temp is always at 210.

Hell, if they dont believe you just run it til it blows up! J/K ):h My LLY runs perfect, maybe take it to the stealer with the trailer on and then go for a drive.

Id rather push my Chevy than drive a Ford!

huntsalot,

Haven't seen you on the DP for several months now. I recall your issues from the LLY overheating post. Your truck was one that was truly overheating IIRC. I know you don't want to hear all the success stories with other LLY's since your truck has given you problems from the get-go.:o:

I take it you have had the truck reflashed and did the diagnostics discussed on the overheating thread. If that's the case you may need to pursue a buyback from GM on your truck. IIRC Cadent45 was successful with his, even posted an attorney's name he used. The dealership should be able to mount a diagnostics module on your truck than captures what is happening when your truck is towing. This seems to be one of the first steps in the process. You might contact C45 for advice. ;)

With the advent of warmer weather I suspect the LLY overheating thread will get lively again. I'm anxious to see how many 05 LLY's experience the overheating issue. Later. JJ :)

I know there is plenty wrong with me, but none of it is related to my '04.5 LLY. I love how mine tows.

I think the 05 lly will do fine my dad bought one and the front grill is huge. I am sorry about my spelling in the first post but I was so pissed at my truck. No I have not had my truck reflashed yet stealer told me it wont help me since there is nothing wrong. Went to the beach this weekend now I know its not my edge causing any problems because its not in right now its at edges geting reflashed. Coming down a grade all of the sudden my truck will only do 25 mph I was like Censored now what got the wife and kids and the 5th wheel and my trucks going to break down half way to the beach. I am thinking about getting rid of my truck. I will look into a buy back. I dont know what I want to get now. I hope you all had a better weekend then me sorry for all the Censored en..

Does you truck overheat without the edge? I recently towed 3,500 miles towing our 9,500# 5er (65-70mph) and ran normal temps for trans and engine temp from Michigan to Florida. Auxiliary fan kicked on only 3 times the whole trip. I still need the EGT set.

Just wait until it gets hotter if you have an 04.5 lly it will get hot

I had one of my LLY's reflashed late in the summer last year and it hasn't overheated since.

huntsalot,

Find yourself another dealer! If you have to snuggle up next to the service manager, stick your hand in his front pocket and act like your looking for change ):h , whatever you have to do to get your truck reflashed. Don't leave until they do it! Just keep going up the pecking order til you get to the GM's office, that SOB will have it reflashed in a heartbeat!

RDL and several others were having serious overheating problems before reflash. Personally I hadn't overheated but was well on my way before backing off the pedal pulling 24k GCW up a mountain. :o:

My LLY ran like a different truck after reflash. Before pursuing any buyback you should have this done. After reflash your LLY will likely run just like your dad's 05, same programming will be in both. While we're at it, have you changed the fuel filter recently? If you are on the original and have over 10k miles need to change it asap. ;)

I don't recall, are you one of those that upgraded to larger tires? JJ :)

The 04.5 LLY and the 05 LLY are the same. The only difference are the ECM updates from GM. They update all the time and when you go to the dealer they are supposed to check to see if you have the most recent version. Sounds like your dealership sucks, find a new one. I have an 04.5 LLY and pull a 16k 5er. No problems, runs and pulls like a champ. I have never had the truck to the dealer except for oil changes. I ditched the cat and put the Banks exhaust on it. Installed some Autometer gauges to watch the temps, and I am good to go. I am running 33-12.50-17 PJ tires, and have not seen a difference in pulling. I would find another dealer to work out the bugs. This truck is one of the best ive owned. Good Luck

Maybe you can have the dealer get you an 05 hood and grille at no charge? Bigger griller = more air and more efficient cooling. I hate to hear that you are having troubles and I hope that you can get them worked out. I agree with JJ, look for a dealer until you find one that listens!

My 04.5 LLY does not run any hotter than my 01 LB7. I already am going after the buyback for a different problem on my 04.5.

Hope you are able to get it resolved, I was not and the Atty. tells me it takes about 30 days to resolve with GM.

Good luck.

Ogre states: Those are the kinds of problems that would make me a Ford or Dodge man

<!-- / message -->None of these trucks are without sin brethren! ):h You may just be jumping out of the pot into the fire. Yes a few LLY owners are experiencing the overheating which is why it has been so hard to pin down. IIRC Ferd's 6.0 is having similar problems. As for Dodge, well ... ?

Suffice to say there is a glitch with certain LLY's. Those of you that tow fairly heavy at higher elevations should take the time to read the "overheating" thread, grab ya a cold one, it's pretty long. Several of the guys that spear-headed that thread have vanished, but I suspect others will step up to the plate on this. ;) Later. JJ :)
