I'm in the market for a diesel, is there a way to tell by the vin# if a 2007 is LMM or the other type. It has the new body style so I'm assuming it has all the emissions crap on it? Please enlighten me. Thanks in advance!

Any new body style duramax is the lmm with the dpf emmissions and is 2007.5 or newer.
Older body style is called a 2007 classic and has lbz engine...no dpf. GM is having very few issues with it's dpf system, more issues on dodge and ford from what I've read. Sorry - don't know vin differences. I'm buying an lmm, no regrets at all. Love the nbs and interior changes and the drivetrain is butter. I like quiet and no smoke, won't be modding-so that works for me.

Thanks for the input Paul. I'm really stuck right now trying to decide between a Duramax with the LMM (cause I like the new body) or a 07 Cummins 5.9. I plan modding the truck but all the new emissions crap is scary.

For the vin, it is I think the 8th number will be a 6 for the LMM, and a D for the LBZ. But, even easier than that, like Paul said, all NBS trucks are the LMM. I don't care for the emissions stuff either but it is the wave of the future for diesels. It is pretty nice to not worry about smoking out whatever you are towing!

I would definately consider a 07.5 before a cummins. The comfort of the Chevy is a big plus, as well as the Allison behind the Dmax.

My dealer does DPF deletes for their customers, so no problems here either.
It varies by location and every dealer has different ideas on modifications.

The truck in the picture is the old body style and would not have the emissions crap.

The truck will have emissions crap, just not the DPF, it still has the egr and the cat from the factory. It may have been altered by the previous owner and therefore no emissions.
