I'm posting for my husband so sorry if I don't get the technical stuff right. We have a 98 GMC sierra 2500 that keeps stalling out. We have replaced the fuel pump, filter, glow plugs, batteries, and I believe the crankshaft positioning sensor, and I believe the timing was checked as well. Anyway it still dies out, but only when the engine is cold, and usually only when we are getting on the freeway at night. It started out as more of a hesitation but it would keep running, then it started stalling but it would start right back up, now when it dies we are sitting on the side of the road for 10-20 min. and it may die several times before it gets warmed up. I have been told by the dealership that it is the injection pump, and someone else said it was the pmd, but from what I have read it seems to be backward for pmd failure. I thought that for pmd failure it would stall when the engine was hot, but again I have no clue. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!!!

What kind of fuel are you using ?
Do you confirm she won't die when hot ? If you open the T-Valve drain, do you get some fuel dripping when running ?

Also, what is your mileage? If it is under 120K miles, you may still have the IP warranty.

He's running regular diesel from our local 76 station. I know the fuel flow was checked (though I don't know how) it was ok. Nope, it won't die when she's hot.

PMD's can have issues hot or cold,i have had them failing to start in the morning, then similair to yours, and at times it dies when hot.
If i was you, i would have a good look at the fuel supply,it sounds like you have got air in the system, never mind the new LP and filter. check for air at the filter bleed plug first thing in the morning before startup..
What is the fuel pressure with engine off,at idle and WOT?

Assuming that LP are good.
Unfortunately, for PMD, the only way to know is to change it with a good one. You may want to relocate them using an extension cable to outside the engine compartment.

imo i say this is a injection pump problem my 95 6.5 had the exact same symptoms as yours would die when cold not hot and it started out as a little hesitation in between 1000 and 2000 rpms it would only hesitate when cold when it got up to temp it would run great i would say you might need an injection pump.

I will find out if he has checked the fuel pressure. Where is a good place to get a pmd? If I get the pmd and it ends up the IP can I get an IP without the pmd?

While it is possible the pump is bad, a lot of pumps get changed due to
misdiagnosed PMDs, and since they come with new PMDs, you can't prove
it wasn't the pump
