Hey guys, I'm taking my truck to the dealer tomorrow to check the injectors and was wondering what do I need to do when I take the egt probe out of the exhaust manifold? Do I just need to get a bolt and screw into the hole? By the way, my exhaust has a terrible smell and it smokes a little so I think the injectors are bad so I'm taking it in. thanks.

x2^ but don't keep it in for too long. I couldn't find one around here that wasn't brass, and brass is not good for running in those high temps for too long. It's too soft.

I had a bolt laying around the house here that matched perfectly about 3/4 inch long so I just put that in there. That should be fine shouldn't it? Thanks.

I would be really surprised if you had exactly the correct bolt to fit in there. The kind of bolt that goes in there is a tapered bolt. If it's off in size you might find that it is hard to get your probe back in there correctly. Go to an ace hardware and get the right thing. Less than $2.00. I would get the right thing and be safe.

you found a 3/8-28(straight"parallel" thread) bolt and put it in 1/8-27 NPTF(national pipe thread fuel-tapered). you just screwed the threads, may seem like it will hold but will work around and blow out. if a bolt would have worked it would have rubber oring or copper/aluminum o-ring/gasket. can't remember how many times had air hose fittings blow apart from having bolt shoved in temporary. get pipe tap and clean out threads before replacing fitting(pipe thread is 1/4" under actual size for reference)

Why do you need to do this? Do you think they will deny warranty on injectors if you have an EGT guage?

^^ That's what I was thinking. What's the point of pulling the probe? Are you pulling out the whole system, gauge, plumbing, and all?

exactly, I wouldn't think they'd deny your warrenty because of a egt probe. But who really knows. Dealers can be cranky when it comes to warrenty work.
