I have been looking around at tires & finally decided on a set of Cooper Discoverer STT in 285/70R17 to put on my H2 wheels. They are a fairly new model tire & am wondering if anyone has used them or have any input/info??

We have them all over the place at the power plant I work at, on all or most of our plant pickups. Good traction and good on icy roads. The soft compound that gets good grip though doesn't do real well for long term milage. But they typically don't cost an arm and a leg either. And they are available in more load ranges than most other brands. I've used the older Cooper Discoverer's and they did okay, but these have a more aggresive tread, something I would want. I've used the Kelly Springfield MSR's and they gave good all round traction, but they too had a soft compound. But I used three sets of those and I might still. But the best tire I've found for around here have been Toyo Open Country A/T's. Good traction and good wear. And quiet. I'll use 'em again. I already have a set mounted on my second set of H2's. I'm going from these 33's up to 35's. These are load range D tires, but they are load rated by the weight they'll carry as nearly load range E's. There... that's my dollar $2.98.

I'm getting a set of Cooper Discover S/t's for my truck next week. You are right that they don't cost an arm and a leg. For 285/75/16's it cost me 132 a tire, which I didn't think to bad.

I think the Cooper STT's look really nice. I was just on their website last night reading about them. I was told they are a copy-cat of the Toyo Open Country M/T's (http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines/lightTruck_suv/opmt.html) which are very popular around here (Oregon) but pricey.

I'd be curious to hear how the Cooper's perform, noise level, etc. I have the itch to get new tires but have to wear out my BF KO's first. Definately going to try something different next time around...not that I don't think the BF's are good tires but expensive and have had a hard time keeping them balanced.

Gonna have to look at these when I get rid of the noisey stone throwers I have now. I was going to go with BFG's but now I don't know....
Anyone know what are a set of STT 285/70-17's are going for?

Did you get the tires? Any first impressions? I was looking at the BFG all terrains for my hummer wheels but it seems you just pay a pile of money for the name. Thinking about picking up a set of Cooper Discover S/t's.

Discoverer S/T-C 265/75R16 on my truck. They are not much louder than the stock tires, but they do grab rocks from worksites, just like every other aggressive tread tire. Have had then on for about 12k miles and rotate them every 5k - no irregular wear and still a long way to go on the tread. As everyone has mentioned these tires are great in the winter on snow and ice. I put them on towards the end of last summer - so I have had them on for part of last summer and all of this winter. I would definately buy them again next time around.

I just picked them up last night. I am going to have them mounted, balanced the truck aligned and the speedo recalibrated on Saturday morning. I have gotten a ton of complments on how they look, and thats just with them sitting in the back of the truck. I will get some pics when they get put on.

wbens,
sweet, cant wait to see how they look. where can you get them? I have been tossing around the thought of getting the BFG All terrains, but the cost... I would like the agressiveness of these.

I got mine through a local tire guy here in town. He beat everyone's price buy atleast 20 bucks a tire out the door. I would suggest however, if you don't have mud flaps on your truck, to put some on before you get these tires. The lugs are very deep:D. Me and my friend just put some Husky liner mud flaps on tonight as well, to help stop the rock chips. I just wish tommorrow was Saturday and not Friday.

I have had the ST's on my truck of over 2 years now and I am very happy with them.
They are quieter than a simmilar tire of another company and they wear well.
I paid about $135 a tire compared to about $175 for the BF's.

I really liked the fact that they had the factory siping. I also had them sipe them even more for better traction in the winter.
I had a set of AT's on my plow truck and they were even more quieter and still gave great traction in the snow for plowing.

I remember reading a post by someone about the Cooper tires having issues like the Firestones had. But I have not noticed anything wrong with my tires.

Just bought the new stt's a week ago. They seem to be doing pretty good. Not as much of a hum as the old style that I had on my powerstroke. I was running 33x12.50x16.5 on my powerstroke and got about 35,000 miles out of them. I think the new ones may do better since they have the rounded edges. Also it seems that with the rounded edges they throw fewer rocks but I have had only had them a week, so who knows.

Anyone run Yokohama Geolanders in 285's? My bud just got a set for $475 out the door! They look real aggressive, only thing he said was they are a soft compound--but he don't put alot of miles on either!
