: those looking for ram air intakes
biodiesel84 04-19-2009, 12:41 AM The RAM AIR BOX is a twin snorkel, high capacity air cleaner housing used to supply fresh air to an engine. It is based on the popular 14" open element air cleaner. The RAM AIR BOX is a one-piece, hand-laminated fiberglass unit, offered in many sizes. The benefits of cooler air, teamed with forced induction, have long been understood.

figured I'd put this out there...this looks like a whole kit to put a ram air box on our trucks...the air box itself is made out of fiberglass...like I said, just thought I'd put this out there...I don't work for these people and am not affiliated with them...

Ok, but there isn't any room to run the ducts to the front because the radiator is in the way --- and if it's not the radiator, it's the battery trays, the transmission cooler, the oil cooler, the headlights ...
I wonder what this manufacturer suggests to solve the duct problem? And how do they keep the water and the dirt out? After driving through a sand storm for a few hours like I did last xmas, you might need a new air filter ... and the ducts are plugged with tumble weed ...
biodiesel84 04-19-2009, 10:34 AM I think they run the ducts up under the front of the truck...I think
Chuck.

We know that you have stated many many times that your truck has stuff in the way, while everyone else has room to do the dryer duct thing and use both knockouts.
If you put an oil cooler or something in the way, we cant help you, you have to figure it out yourself. I did the dryer duct thing on my 82 no problem.
Thats like me saying these adds for exhaust for this style truck is useless, but only doesnt work on mine since i have a custom mounted turbo.

4320Diesel 04-19-2009, 02:18 PM yea i ahve the same problem as lee my rad is over too far and covers my driverside knockout but the pass knockout is out and in use for the engines cold air intake im planning on coverting it to ram air by putting a small hood over the intake in the grille so water and other sh*t doesnt get in there and plugging the water drain in the engine compartment then i should have true ram air

Probably not everyone else has the room. Without modifying something, like moving the radiator to the passenger side, the knockout on the drivers side isn't useable. That's not because of modifications I have made.

Yeah, I've seen it, it's a good idea --- but you have to have the room and something to keep the water and dirt out.

And then drive through a puddle of water ...

do you think my cheap mans fix should help some?

If you have the plastic thing behind the hole on the passenger side, you can take that off and put an inlet with a cover in front of it into its place. When you cover the inlet, it would be better to take it off because the air has to go all the way down to the water outlet and then back up.
But the plastic thing with the opening on the bottom to let the water run out seems to be pretty effective. You won't have a ram intake with a cover over the inlet anyway, so you could just leave it as it is. And without the cover, you'll get all the water and dirt in.
4320Diesel 04-19-2009, 02:34 PM so really i cant do that? i saw the other day driving in the rain i opened the hood and there was a fair amount of water dripping out fo the seperator so i was wondering if i put some duct tape over the hole and punch a small hole in the bottom for water to run out there should be some presure build up in the intake since its not all being blown out into the engine compartment
4320Diesel 04-19-2009, 02:38 PM i have another idea is to take a pice of hose the size of the water drain and run it into a small containter and seal it up airtight so the water will run into the jar and hose and still keep the ram air effect even drving 8 hours in a driving rain i doubt it will fill up a small sealer and a piece of hose and the water should evaporate out of my jar thing over time of sitting and idling in town
