Why these brands? What kind of tire do you want to get or need? For what vehicle?

It's like you're asking which plane ticket to buy but without saying where you want to go :)

In the size's I shopped for and bought the Toyo's were always much cheaper than the Nitto's. Partially because of the price I had a perception that the Nitto's were better. Lots of guys will state opinions on which is better having only ever used one brand or the other. That's ok as long as they are stating their actual experience rather than saying one is better than the other. I personally like the Nitto's, having had a couple set's of them before. I have also recently had a set of the Yokohama Geolanders on a Dodge Durango. They worked well on that vehicle, but I can't compare them to the Nitto's I have now because the type of usage is so different. Size, type (Mud & Snow, AT's MT's), the vehicle and type of usage make a big difference between one tire brand and another.

Well, you're naming two brands that make lots of different tyres and one tire of another brand, without giving a size and a vehicle. Tires are all different and the same tire is different on a different vehicle. Moreover, there are different driving conditions and expectations for which one tire can be a better choice than another.

A Hankook Dynapro HP RA23 is different from a Hankook Dynapro AS RH03 and a Hankook RA07 and a Hankook AT RF08 ... Yokohamas selection is even wider, like from RY103 to Geolandar M/T Plus, i. e. from a rib tire to an MT with lots in between.

There are about 40 different tyres you're asking about, for all kinds of different driving conditions and expectations. Without giving more specifications, it's hard to give a useful answer to your question.

People with Nitto terra grapplers on a Duramax mostly seem to wish they would last longer --- I have them on my Suburban and they don't seem to wear any faster than can be expected.

For mostly highway driving, I would consider Firestone Transforce HT or AT. I've done a lot of research on tires two weeks ago, and they seem to be good tires, and for mostly onroad driving, I'd chose the HT because (in the size I'm looking for) they cost about $20 less than the AT and would likely just do as well as the AT for the driving conditions I expect. For $125 each, installed, I would try them even though I was saying it's better to stay away from Firestone because I've had trouble with two Firestone car tires about 20 years ago. But almost every comment I've found about them was positive, both as tires for heavy RV trailers and on (towing) vehicles, and they seem to last longer than Nitto terra grapplers --- as you can expect from a highway tread.

Lots of people like Michelins, but I don't want a tire that is extremely expensive (I can get two reasonably priced, good tires for the price of one Michelin) and which I might have to replace due to age because I'm not driving so much that I'd wear the tread down ...

But the Nittos might be a better choice for you than the Firestones or Michelins --- only you can tell :) It's just not so simple, with so much to choose from.
