My 05 has what I would call a surge. I've got about 2K on it now and have no muffler, egr plate, stick, pred 60 tune. Surged before and after tune.

I have been trying to figure this thing out since I got it. It seems that it does not do it all the time. I am beginning to think the surge is related to throttle input or funky programing-assuming that the dmax's throttle is electronicly controlled. I am still used to my 01 6.0 gasser, so I press the throttle the with the same input I was used to using, and that cause the surge. If I go lighter or harder no surge. I also think this affects the tranny, as I have always got less than desirable shifting(even before the pred).

Yesterday it was in the middle 30's, started truck and high idle activiated. Idled for 2 minutes and left. Truck did not surge until engine temps came up, than it was back to normal??

Any dmax veterns have any thoughts??
Are any other 05's surging, and are you blocked and sticked??

Doesn't really bother me, other than the tranny learning stupid shifting patterns. Otherwise the truck is hands down better than my old 6.0 gasser:ro)

They all do it. Check with the dealer and ask to have the pcm reflashed. It will make it better. They will still do it some after the reflash but not near as bad. Try searching this web site for surge for more info.

My truck, 04.5 LLY, did/does the same thing. It goes in tommorow for a new injector and to have the ECM re-flashed. Lets hope this fixes the problem. The first time I had it in the dealer told me it needed a new fuel filter. Too bad that didn't fix the problem. I want to get this problem fixed so I can begin the mods. :ro)

I have had mine in five times with no improvement. It is annoying, it did it just off idle in the beginning but after trhe reflash it does it around 25 to 30 mph crusing and it is a pain with the 5er hooked up. Feels like its going to break somthing. Turned mine over to a lemon atty. Said it takes about thirty days. we shall see.


GM tells me they are working on a fix for it but none at this time. The current flash they say fixes about 60% of the trucks, but they have no clue for the other 40%.Censored -:t :eek: :help2:

I was under the impression that the 05's had the most current software. I am also under the impression that my surge is much less than 04.5's from the vast reading on the subject.

I have not worked my truck real hard yet-:t !! I have pulled car hauler a few times and it seems that my surge is better when loaded, or at least less noticeable. I am hoping that it just goes away, yea right!

I also think that my truck runs, and shifts better with a load, as opposed to being empty all the time. These trucks just love to be worked:ro)

Funny you mention 5ver. My father has already started with comments about putting rails and mounting kit in my truck to pull his 5th wheel :badidea: . Yea that is going to happen. I do feel bad though, he pulls with a 03 6.0 gasser.. Motor is just about maxed out!!!!
