Just thought I would pass on the indicators of bad injectors on my friends 2001. While driving he noted a significant and abrupt drop in oil pressure. He quickly went to a dealer and learned many of his injectors were bad (whatever that means) and all of them had to be replaced. The dealer did not have any injectors and apparently after several days finally took them out of another truck (year unknow) which was for sale. Fortunately the work was covered under the warranty. Of interest is my friend has been using Stanadyne for several years but also had been pulling a large 5th wheel on a full-time basis.:(

Maybe someone should start an 01 problem poll since there have been a number of posts lately, stating that the 01's are the most problematic. Sorry, I don't know how.
My truck has been perfect short of a fuel tank sender unit, tho it only has 45,500 mi. on it.
build date: July 01
45,500 mi.
Stock except for(265 BFGs)
Tow construction trailer a fair amount (not heavy but often) and a medium TTrailer
Use fuel addatives but not on a regular bases.
Meticulous about maint.

I still wish Some one could explain what has changed from 01-02-03-04.5???? Why the 01 & early 02 are more likley to fail, and whats changed on the NEW Injectors they are replacing them with.
44k lopey idle and Edge on since 14k.
Lopey idle = bad RPCV covered under warranty

I just took my truck in to get the injectors replaced. One day coming home from work I noticed a drop in oil pressure, after parking the truck there was diesel coming out of the breather tube. The truck has 149k on it and this is the first time it's been back to the dealer for any type of fuel related problem. The injectors are covered under warrenty to 200k so the problem is covered totally by the dealer. I would never put used injectors in!!

i bought my baby a year and a half ago...it had 38,700 miles on it...the injectors were replaced at 41k...the shop foreman where i have it serviced pulled a warranty report out of curiosity...it was SEVEN pgs long! ...the only other problem i've had with it is that a tranny module failed...all was covered by warranty and i've had NO difficulties of ANY kind with the $tealer...it mite be because they only sell trucks and suv's...it's NOT a standard GM $tealership...they work on a LOT of big rig engines and sell cat engines...the foreman told me the replacement injectors are engineered differently, and they've had no returns on the ones they've installed...i feel better that GM has extended the injector warranty to 200k :bounce:
they advised me to use howes fuel additive, so that's what i use...i also have the oil AND fuel filter changed every 5k...i get 15-16mpg empty and 13-14mpg towing a 4-horse stock trailer with 2 ponies and a carriage inside...i LOVE the way it tows...i don't even know the trailer is back there :)

Pony Driver,
You should only have to change the fuel filter every 10K unless your buying really dirty fuel. And you can do it yourself, it's not hard. Also you should be getting close to 20 MPH on the highway. Check it again. 13 to 15 in town.Towing is all over the map, 10 to 14.5.

With the increased warranty to 200k, did they also increase the time interval - beyond the 5 year period? If not, my '01 at 80K with the original injectors will go out of warranty early next year. Almost hope they fail shortly to get some replacements while I can.......
