Just looking to adjust tire size, check codes, etc & a gain a small HP increase to compensate for bigger tires/increase fuel economy (40-65 hp increase max). Don't want to have to add guages, beef up tranny, etc.

Which one would be the best pick for the money to get these options/offer the most options ??

Either....both great products. I am using HyperTech. No problems and works good.

Predator has a scan tool for checking and clearing codes, has live scan, can chang tire size settings, adjust top speed limmiter, and does not lock onto the vin so you can sell it to a friend if you sell your truck later.

The predator is a great programmer no doubt... but as far as not going big on power, you will lol, its just a matter of how long it takes. I would suggest you start putting some cash back for the tranny upgrade. :-) I thought I would be satisfied with the 85 tune... wrong, it doesn't help any that I see RyanU running up and down the streets all of the time. It just adds fuel to the fire.

The Predator for a LB7 does marry to the vehicles' VIN (as far as programming is concerned, code stuff works for any). Last I heard $70 would get it un-married so it could be used for another Duramax LB7.
If you don't tow, the 40HP & 65HP levels won't get you in the bad heat and are pretty smooth (ie very driveable).

Better stay at the 40HP tune if you tow over 8000lbs. I pulled to NM in Feb. and used the 40 tune with a 8500lb travel trailer and had no problems and loved it. For a daily driver you can use the 65 or 85 tunes.

Running a Hypertech and have had no problems with it. I Leave it in level 3 and roll. i wanted the ability to adjust tire size changes but I went to 285's and the speedo was showing between 4 and 6 off lower than the actual speed. I used the Hypertech to adjust for 33" tires and the speedo went 4to 6 mph high. I finally found after a lot of tweeking that according to the programmer and my GPS that: 31.25" in hypertech gets the speedo 100 % right on. Hypertech claims that you can tow up to the load limits in level 3. I do and have no problem what so ever. Have fun.

I've wondered the same thing. I tow a trailer that weighs around 4K. Would either of these tuners work with a completely stock truck other than tires (285/75/16's)

i sold the hypertech to a friend and he is gettin me the predator. The hypertech is nice and all but i need more adjustbility like the predator has.
For the hypertech to work on another truck you gotta set it back to stock then it erases the vin and will work on another truck.

Either of them will work fine. They will give a little more power and not hurt your tranny or run too hot.

Just curious, but WHY would you want to run without at least an EGT gauge? Based on everything I've read, if you tow ANYTHING, even stock, you should probably plan on getting an EGT pyrometer gauge. Even stock can get into the danger zone if you are pulling a pretty good hill. You can get combo boost/pyrometer/mount pods for under $200 (just over half the cost of Predator), and then you won't have to worry...

Just my $0.02.
