Right now the boost is about 23-24 psi at WOT and the power pup is set on "performance"...Honestly I go pretty easy on her, but once in a while will get on it.

1.Is there a way to increase the boost? Would the boost valve/stick help?

2. Would the PPE standard be better than the BD power pup? Sometimes the shift points are wierd in relation to the boost.

Thanks in advance! :D

Have heard boost is good for upto 36 maybe 40 on some trucks, but anything over about 32/34 is just making more heat and no more power due to being outside the turbos compressor effeciency map.
A boost stick would help. Believe PPE sells one. They will add some boost 4? in stock trucks, but with more fuel and a programmer, will add more. Many say its good bang for the buck.
I know nothing about question 2.

Skip the ppe and boost stick and get EFI Live. It can do so much more than what those two products can. It is well worth the money and you will have so much fun with it. I wish I had gotten it sooner.

I dont think the boost valve helps VVT turbos. Just the wastegated ones on the LB7. You could get PPE's boost controller. That will increase your boost to whatever you want. As far as bullydog vs. PPE, I dont think there is any comparison. PPE's tunes are pretty respected. One of the best "canned tunes" you can buy. As far as PPE vs. EFI, it all depends on what your plans are. If your just looking for a simple plug and play with good towing tunes and great steet tunes that just haul ass, then PPE is for you. If you like infinite adjustability after a little research and tinkering around, EFI is what you want.

It breaks down to price as well. I believe EFI V2 runs around 700 to 800. The PPE, I have seen as low as 400 from nelson diesel in the vendor section. If they dont have it you can get it from XDP for 450. I dont have any experience with bully dog but I feel comfortable telling you that PPE's tunes will more than likely be a step up. I run level 4 (225) and it just hauls ass. Either way you wont be disappointed if you upgrade to one of the two mentioned.

Oh and the PPE comes with increased boost built into the tune. You can also download EFI tunes that have boost built in.

Thany you guys. I will be having to make some decision soon on EFI live or the PPE Standard...the bully dog power pup just seems to have wierd shift points in relation to the boost sometimes. I have had the tune set for a while now and would think the tranny would have learned. Thanks again and bless you'll!

kind of the same situation just different make, my buddy has a 99 ford 7.3 he had a bullydog, he was saying the samething about his shifting that it would shift realy funny, too much, and at the wrong time, he got rid of the bullydog and got a itp box and said there is a huge difference in performance and shifting

with the boost controller from PPE you have a lot of on the fly adjustability and it works well with EFI. with the boost stick it is either in or out.

PPE tunes are great for the money. EFI takes some skill

I think for what I do with work and play, the PPE may be the best setup...EFI is sweet though. Anybody in Albuquerque?

It's wierd that he had the same probs...it seems fine when you are easy on it, but sometimes when edging into the throttle the boost will be gaining and it will shift at what seems to be the wrong point...kinda feels like when someone's drivn' a standard and doesn't know how to work the clutch... wierd. Looking into PPE and EFI live. We'll see...Thanks for the input too...My dad's got an older 7.3...they are runners! Bless ya man.

Level 4 on a stock trans is risky. I dont want to tell you its ok because its probobly not. BUT...I run it on my truck right now. Ran it with a stock tranny for about 3 or 4 months without limping once. You just have to be somewhat conservative.

Oh the Transgo is wonderful! Did about 6 or so 4wd launches in level 4 so far and it doesn't skip a beat. Shifts are assertive and tow haul is even more impressive. Its an absolute must. Best of all, shifts during normal driving are un-disturbed. Drives like stock.

I like your truck as well. Thing looks like it would survive a nuclear blast. Who made the bumper?

That is awesome on the PPE tune...I am getting to the point that I might just take the Bully Dog off and back to stock untill I can get the PPE. I also got a Transgo Jr....just gotta get it in. Looking forward to the combo...seems to work for you guys!

Thanks Hellrazr, the bumper is a Fab Fours...have had it on for a couple weeks...got a screamn' deal on it, actually from a dp member.

Did you install the Transgo jr. yourself? Difficult? I really don't want to mess anything up...
