I am going to pick up my new Banks Ram Air and Super Scoop tomorrow. I have done alot of research and this seems to be one of the better cold air intake systems available right now. My concern is - just how much will this system filter against dust? I live in Arizona and we have very dry and dusty roads in the desert. If your running a Banks Super Scoop, how has it been in dusty conditions?

I do not have the super scoop, but I run in very dusty desert conditions (fine silty stuff a lot) with the Banks ram air intake system. I tow a 40' weekend warrior trailer. I pulled off the filter for the first time in a year and ran my finger inside the intake tube, and there was not a spec of dust in there. More than I can say about the K&N intake on my Jeep.

I highly recommend it.

Just cleaned and re-oiled the filter on my truck (05 LLY with 99k on it).......I just bought the truck in December, and from the first on the filter, I'd say it hadn't been cleaned in at LEAST 60 or 70k.......not a spec of dust on the intake tube;)

There's a guy on here that had a pre charger made for the banks filter. I looked for at the site he listed but couldn't not find it. My tube has always been clean each time I cleaned filter. I just checked the all the hose clamps, two were loose, intake would all most pull out. That sucked

I'd think you would be just fine.

FYI, I have a Banks setup for sale if you're interested.

Your posts give me some confidence in installing this upgrade. I spoke to a few friends and they told me that submerging the scoop in water (of course) and constant dust simular to following a vehicle on a dry dusty road has caused some engines to freeze up.. Have you hear of such a thing happening with this type of set up??

1) the back of the scoop has 3 or 4 HUGE vents cut in it, to allow water, bugs, etc to avoid getting sucked up.

2) the entire RF side of the air box is open already, which allows for an alternate source of air if the Scoop is blocked with snow/water.

I'm not worried about it......

It does come a blocker plate that if installed, you should remove if encountering deep water. I can tell you that with the plate installed the intake air temps sitting in traffic or just idling are significantly decreased.

Mine did not come with a blocker plate.. I looked in the list of items shown in the owners manual and did not see one either. Am I missing something? What is a Blocker Plate?

The blocker plate covers the hole in the air filter box on the fender side. The plate allows air to be drawn from the scoop only, not the inner fender like factory set-up. W/o the plate, temps are higher and you are safe with the scoop underwater, with the plate, temps are lower and no swimming allowed.

Got it... So, where do I get a blocker plate?? Is this something that is sold by the dealer, aftermarket, or home made?

The blocker plate should've come with your Ram Air set-up. Give a call to the vendor where you purchased it, and demand it immediately!

I called the vendor that sold me the Intake. They got ahold of Banks and apparently they had the blocker plate included in the packaging for the first 6 months only. They (Banks) decided to pull the blocker plate out since their tests show that the system runs better with the blocker plate off.. So the plate is not longer available - not even to order separate. I guess I will have to fabricate one of my own..

Jbarker from Banks said they found it to be the best with the plate removed at all times.

I also live in MN inthe salty ,sandy winters and seem to have no problems at all with the filter getting dirty. It is a little bit, but not bad for being 8 mounths old. I had an AFE on my old 6.5L and that thing got dirty within a week.

Do you find that the factory air filter guage is accurate indication of when the air filter needs to be cleaned? How often do you check/clean the one you have?

I have had mine for 8 or 9 mounths now and the gauge hasn't moved. I looked at the filter a couple months ago when I did the Intake Horn Mod and it was clean , just a little dark spot around the bottom of it.

My indicater has never moved. Even when the filter was dirty. I have been thinking about making my own scoop. Who was the member that made up the outerwear?
