Hope this is the right place to post this, if not, can a moderator move it for me?

I am going to be towing a 9,300 lb tractor (plus the trailer & misc. equipment in the bed) up some hills. For comparison, a '99 cummins WOT will barely do 40 MPH on these hills with the same load. My question is, with an Edge box (very early model, circa 2003) set on level 1 (lowest), will I have too high of EGTs?

I don't have an EGT gauge (yet, it's coming), and I don't want to hurt my engine. Will I be OK, or should I turn it off when in tow/haul?

I'd wait until you got your EGT gauge installed. Running Edge on level 1 with 4" exhaust I can hit 1300 towing our 10-11k 5er in the mountains here in CO depending on the hill, and not be WOT either. Might want to look at the thread just a little below yours that is titled "Have you been here" or something like that. Why chance it??

edge says you should tow in level 1 or 2. i would think you should be fine but you never know what kind of egt's your motor makes until you have a guage to show you.

i feel the same, i just put on an mbrp 4" and a quadzilla tuner, im even worried pullin a small trailer on flat land without an EGT gauge, why take the chance of doing some extreme damage to the engine? get that gauge man!

Well the consensus matches what I figured anyway. I shall disable the Edge when in tow/haul until I get the pyro installed. Better safe than sorry.

i towed out of alaska to wisconsin grossed out at 22,000 pounds on edge set on level 2 and on some of the larger mountains in canada i had to let off because of EGTs. I would get a EGT gague before running heavy in the mountains.

Pulled my old 8500 lb. fiver with my 02 and the Juice on level one, definitely need an EGT gauge to back off or drop a gear on the steep grades.Could hardly believe the towing power with the Edge Juice on level one.The hills just did not slow her down, she would hang right there in 5th gear.My 07 LBZ towing my 12,000 lb. fiver actually jumps the EGTs faster, can see 1300 WAY TOO FAST.

I tow a 12k 5er on level 4, seems to get better mileage and man does it go.

I got an old Banks EGT from my brother, and installed that in my truck. I was towing light (2500 lb trailer empty then with an Acura Integra on it) with the Edge on level 1.

Traveling up the hills empty, I hit nearly 1300 degrees on the steeper hills (it stayed in 5th), and on the steepest hill it finally dropped down to 4th, and the EGTs went down to 1200 for that hill. Towing the car back, it stayed in 5th the whole time (the hills were less steep on that leg of the trip), and stayed below 1200.

I think that when I tow our 9300 lb tractor, I will either turn the edge off or disable the overdrive to make sure the EGTs stay below 1350.

My truck was stock when I first towed my 5er and my EGTs were high so I started modifying. First the Edge then the 5" cat back exhaust, then modified the air box, EGT's were still high so I got rid of the cat and that is the best thing I have done. I scream up the hills now. My buddy in his Dodge pulling same 5er cant keep up with me.
