: Hope this isn't ignorant -- Re: Wheels
SethMcKinney 04-23-2005, 10:06 PM I love the look of dually front wheels, but I don't own a dually. Can you put dually front wheels on both front and back -- I am talking the big 10 hole alcoa/accuride's etc...
Hope this is possible because I am jealous of the big rig look they get in the front.
Thanks
Also -- never seen it so I really don't know if it would look nice, but personally I can picture it. In my head it looks good...
akdiesel 04-23-2005, 11:05 PM Let me get this straight.
Are you asking if you can put two tires on each side on the front or are you asking if every tire on a dually truck will fit all locations of the truck?
All tires on a dually will fit any location.
SethMcKinney 04-23-2005, 11:17 PM I am asking if the front rim of a dually will work on the back of an SRW? I think it will -- that's why I think it's a stupid question, but I just don't know.
Dually -- Front Rim is convex
-- Rear Rim is concave
SRW -- Front is concave
-- rear is concave
I am wondering if you could put the convex rim on the front of a dually on the FRONT and BACK of a SRW.
Thanks
TheBac 04-23-2005, 11:28 PM Why not check with RicksonWheel? Could you put on those 10-lug adapters and do it?
Hey, anything is possible with enough money and time.....
Tom
SethMcKinney 04-23-2005, 11:32 PM It shouldn't be any more money. All it would be is 4 convex rims instead of 4 concave rims.

Did that post answer anything? Thanks for your great input.
bigmike6970 04-24-2005, 09:50 AM I think that in order to get the clearance for the wheels you would need to use the spacer that is used on the front of a Dually. the spacer bolts to the hub and then you can bolt the rim to the spacer. If I remember right the spacer kicks the wheel mounting face out like 6" or so to compensate for the convex wheel.

The inside rear wheel and the front wheel are the same and the same placement. The outside rear is the same but placed 180 degrees to the hub from the front/inside wheels. If you have the 10 holes, front hub should nearly match the rear hub (may be longer lugs). Go take a close look at the dually and this will make sense.
SethMcKinney 04-24-2005, 02:26 PM Thanks -- those are good answers. I know what to look for now.

Seth you have to learn to relax man, we all get picked on along the way. You just have to learn how to deal with it. I hope you find the answer to your problem as I have no idea...

.
On my truck, the front looks like it is just a spacer that is bolted onto the axle hub, and the wheel then bolts to the spacer, hub of wheel facing out, and it may be an easy conversion on a non-dually truck, with no modifications.
Regarding the back, if you take a dually wheel, and bolt it onto the rear of a single wheel rear axle, with the hub of the wheel out, the inside of the tire may rub against the inner fender or something, and look kind of goofy. If you bolt it up with the hub of the wheel facing in, like the outer wheel in a dually application, I would think the wheel would stick out from the fender, I think look kind of goofy. If you mounted the spacer as used in the front, and then mounted the wheel, like you would mount the front, then it may work and look OK.
Only one way to find out, go to a junk yard, and buy a junk wheel and front spacer, and give it a try.
:grd:
TheBac 04-24-2005, 11:15 PM Couldn't you just put the front wheel spacers on all 4 hubs and mount 4 front wheels?
I dunno, since I don't know anything about dually wheels....
rjdake 04-25-2005, 12:03 AM Couldn't you just put the front wheel spacers on all 4 hubs and mount 4 front wheels?
I dunno, since I don't know anything about dually wheels....I 'spose you could but don't know why you would ... be pretty goofy lookin'
Diesel Dually 04-25-2005, 02:14 AM If you try to run Dually wheels (concave in front) you must have the dually spacer. If you run duallys in the rear, you need to run them convex co that they sit properly...I would imagine a concave dually in the rear may rub at worst and certainly would look 'goofy'
I would just ante up for a real dually.
SethMcKinney 04-26-2005, 09:14 PM This is what I had in mind...

StraitDiesel 04-26-2005, 10:30 PM Seth try this, it is off of the chrome wheel website, they are 16" alcoa big rig looking wheels.
http://www.chromewheel.com/16alc8.htm
Hope this helps,
Dan
rolloffhill 04-26-2005, 10:45 PM Those aren't "dually" wheels, those are super singles or "floats". Semi's will generally run wider tires on the front axle for concrete trucks, lowboy haulers ect.... More ground pressure and better weight rateing. Definitly a difference between those and dually wheels.
rolloffhill 04-26-2005, 10:53 PM straitdiesel
Those are far from being 16" wheels, try 22.5 or 24.5. Big difference, you can still find those wheels there under the big wheels section.
StraitDiesel 04-27-2005, 12:21 AM First of all, yes they are 16" wheels (look underneath the photo for the size!) and second of all... it was just an option instead of spending an outrageous amount of money on big rig 10 lug wheels and basically getting the same look.
on edit: rollofhill, don't make me out to be an idiot (so lose the roll eyes BS)... I was just giving seth a more affordable option.

First, YES YOU are right the link you posted is for 16" alcoa's
Second lets go back to the original post he is not looking for 16" wheels, if he was he could go to any tire shop and order.
The pic that he posted is a 22.5" alcoa floater.
Let him spend his money the way he wants, if he wants to drop a big bills let him!
strait diesel -"don't make me out to be an idiot (so lose the roll eyes BS)... I was just giving seth a more affordable option."
The way I saw the post it looked like you were responding to his post of the picture which was not accurate info. I was just correcting you. Don't take these posts so seriously. On a lighter note how is this?
